The Financial Education & Outreach Coordinator reports to the Director of Student Financial Aid Assistance and plays a key role in promoting financial wellness across the college. This position is responsible for coordinating financial aid outreach programs and communication strategies, as well as developing, implementing, and evaluating financial literacy initiatives that empower individuals to make informed financial decisions. The coordinator leads college-wide outreach efforts and works closely with internal departments and external partners to deliver engaging workshops, one-on-one coaching, and other outreach activities that support long-term economic stability. Additionally, this role serves as the primary contact for students experiencing basic needs insecurities and oversees the administration of the Student Support Fund program.

Hire, train, and manage a comprehensive Financial Education & Outreach team consisting of Financial Aid Advisors (1.5 FTE), Peer Finance Mentors (4), and financial aid student workers (1‑2); set priorities and monitor results for all financial education and financial aid outreach responsibilities.

Develop and deliver financial education and outreach materials—including basic needs insecurity training tools, student workshops, and printed or digital resources—on topics such as budgeting, saving, credit management, debt reduction, scholarships, financial aid, and student support services.

With support from direct reports, create, promote, and deliver in-class presentations upon faculty request. Develop accessible and inclusive educational materials tailored to meet the needs of diverse student populations.

Oversee the design and execution of multi-channel outreach campaigns in partnership with the Marketing and Communication team, tailored to diverse populations (emails, tabling, workshops, flyers) that increase student awareness and uptake of aid programs.

Oversee the administration of Money Matters (Peer Financial Education Mentoring Program), Student Support Fund (Emergency Student Funding), and Financial Aid Outreach and communication efforts.

Maintain programmatic information for Money Matters, HOUSE, and Cash Course on the Waubonsee website.

Serve as a core member of the Waubonsee Care(s) Team in promoting support for at‑risk students of homelessness and food insecurity.

Facilitate and oversee the Student Support Fund process and coordinate application review, chair committee meetings, and ensure timely student communications.

Reconcile Student Support Fund disbursements monthly and at fiscal year-end; initiate corrections to ensure compliance with state, federal, and institutional regulations.

Maintain a calendar of educational events and ensure timely execution of programming.

Represent Financial Aid on external and internal partnerships and community initiatives related to Financial Education and Basic Needs at the request of the Financial Aid Director.

Assist the Financial Aid Director in building partnerships with high school McKinney‑Vento Liaisons, High School Counselors, and community organizations to extend financial aid education.

Support House Liaison and Benefits Navigator with student referrals, reverse referrals, follow-up, and financial education outreach.

Evaluate and prepare semester and year‑end reports on Outreach and Financial Education program effectiveness collected and synthesized through surveys, assessments, and outcome tracking.

Prepare regular reports and presentations highlighting program impacts, trends, and recommendations for stakeholders.

Respond to audits from federal and state agencies; ensure compliance with all applicable financial aid regulations.

Provide high‑level counseling to students and parents, review all aid documentation, and adjust awards per policy or student request – as needed.

Review student and parent documentation to determine financial aid eligibility and ensure timely, accurate processing of aid applications – as needed.

Prepare audit materials, run and refine Argos/Banner reports, and contribute to recruitment, admission, and retention initiatives.

Assist in the creation and updates of SOPs, financial aid handbook, college catalog, student handbook, and related policy and procedures for all aspects of Financial Education and Outreach.

Additional expectations:

Maintain periodic office hours at branch campuses.

Attend professional workshops to remain current in the field.

Serve on institutional committees.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field required.

Two years of related employment experience, including financial aid, financial education/literacy, student development, program or project management, or student coaching.

Demonstrated experience with designing training tools, workshops, and presentations.

At least one year of supervisory or team leadership experience.

Experience in providing financial education to students.

Prefer experience in financial aid or the financial services industry.

Comfortable presenting to varying‑sized audiences.

MS Office skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Good organizational skills.

Knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs preferred.

Good human relations and communication skills.

Ability to work closely and confidentially with students.

Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and offsite events.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
