Job Overview DaVita is a leading provider of kidney care services. We are seeking a dynamic, experienced nephrologist with dialysis medical director experience to serve as the Vice President, Group Medical Director (GMD). This leadership position shapes clinical strategy, partners with operations, and mentors physician leaders across a defined geography, driving high‑quality, value‑based kidney care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Medical Director Engagement – Serve as a trusted advisor, mentor, and support for DaVita medical directors; onboard new directors and build peer relationships.
Governance & Performance Management – Participate in governance, peer review, and physician performance management.
Operational Partnership – Collaborate with Senior Directors of Clinical Services and Operations partners to improve outcomes such as DQI, Clinical Leaderboard, and PRD.
Patient Safety & Transitions – Help lead initiatives around patient safety, transitions of care, and physician behavior management.
Admissions & Denial Management – Support the admissions process and physician denial management.
Strategic Voice – Serve as a clinical voice during strategy, execution, and change management discussions.
National Representation – Represent your geography in national forums and regional meetings (e.g., PLM, NQM, ASN); provide frontline insights and translate strategic initiatives into practice.
Resource Stewardship – Support efforts in anemia management, mineral bone disease, and tPA usage.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration – Actively participate in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer and other cross‑functional workgroups.
Business Leadership – Partner with Palmer Group Vice Presidents and Division Vice Presidents on business development, growth, and patient/provider experience initiatives.
External Stakeholder Engagement – Advocate for physicians in strategic planning, new market initiatives, and teammate development; represent DaVita as a clinical thought leader.

Solid line to the National Group Medical Director
Dotted line to the Operating Group Vice Presidents
Experience & Skills
Board‑certified nephrologist with 5+ years of clinical practice.
Experience as a dialysis medical director with proven leadership in multi‑site care delivery.
Deep knowledge of value‑based care and experience in integrated care models.
Strong communication skills – ability to influence, mentor, and lead through collaboration.
Alignment with DaVita’s values and a commitment to patient‑centered care.
Travel Expectations
Average of 2+ days per week for field visits, leadership meetings, and clinical observation.
Time Commitment & Flexibility
Approximately 0.4 FTE per Palmer region supported.
Option to maintain a clinical practice (up to 0.2 FTE) provided it does not conflict with DaVita responsibilities.
Potential to support additional strategic initiatives such as SNF dialysis, M&A, and provider partnerships.
