This role is for a dynamic nephrologist with dialysis medical director experience to serve as a Vice President, Group Medical Director (GMD). This is a leadership opportunity to shape clinical strategy, partner with operations, and mentor physician leaders across a defined geography. Who You Are
Board-certified nephrologist with at least several years of experience leading dialysis clinics, ideally as a medical director. You understand the complexities of delivering care in a multi-stakeholder environment and are comfortable navigating operational, clinical, and cultural challenges. You are energized by building physician partnerships, mentoring clinical leaders, and helping care teams thrive. Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Medical Director Engagement Serve as a trusted advisor to DaVita medical directors, offering guidance, mentorship, and support Onboard new medical directors and build trusted peer relationships Participate in governance, peer review, and physician performance management Help medical directors understand and leverage DaVita resources to enhance patient outcomes and physician engagement
Operational Partnership & Field Support Collaborate with Senior Directors of Clinical Services and Operations partners to improve outcomes (e.g., DQI, Clinical Leaderboard, PRD) Help lead initiatives around patient safety, transitions of care, and physician behavior management Support the admissions process and physician denial management Serve as a clinical voice during strategy, execution, and change management discussions
Strategic and National Initiatives Represent geography in national forums and regional meetings (e.g., PLM, NQM, ASN) Provide frontline insights and translate strategic initiatives into practical field application Support resource stewardship efforts (e.g., anemia management, mineral bone disease, tPA usage) Participate in DaVita's Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO) and other cross-functional workgroups
Business Leadership & Growth Partner with Palmer Group Vice Presidents and Division Vice Presidents to support business development, growth, and patient/provider experience Advocate for physicians in strategic planning, new market initiatives, and teammate development Represent DaVita in external stakeholder meetings as a clinical thought leader
Reporting Relationships Solid line to the National Group Medical Director Dotted line to the Operating Group Vice Presidents
Your Experience & Skills
Board-certified nephrologist with 5+ years of clinical practice Experience as a dialysis medical director with leadership in multi-site care delivery Deep knowledge of value-based care and comfort working within integrated care models Skilled communicator with the ability to influence, mentor, and lead through collaboration Strong alignment with DaVita's values and a commitment to patient-centered care Travel & Time Commitments
Travel: Average of 2+ days per week for field visits, leadership meetings, and clinical observation Time: Approximately 0.4 FTE per Palmer region; option to maintain clinical practice up to 0.2 FTE if it does not conflict with DaVita responsibilities May support additional strategic initiatives (e.g., SNF dialysis, M&A, provider partnerships) What We Provide
