Position Summary The Advance Practice Professional (APP) is an individual with clinical and medical skills, and expertise in the care of obstetrics/gynecology patients. The APP completes comprehensive patient health evaluations (including biological, social and psychological assessments), taking into account the patient\'s co-morbid conditions and overall disposition in collaboration with the appropriate clinical/faculty team. The APP assesses and coordinates the educational and psychosocial needs of the patient and caretakers. The APP develops and reviews the plan of care with the other members of the clinical team, directs that care, and coordinates discharge planning and follow-up (as applicable). The APP participates in the education of residents and medical/nursing students and performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and the requirements of the professional licensing or certification authority and/or hospital privileges, where applicable. Such service may include, but is not limited to.

Minimum Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner Education, Certification, and/or Licensure

Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master\'s Degree in Nursing.

National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.

Leleration or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.

American Heart Association BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.

Experience

Eligible and talented new graduates will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

WHNP or FNP certification preferred.

Department-specific: APRNs requesting to be privileged as First Assists in perioperative services may be required to complete an ANOR approved CNOR Certificate program and obtain a passing grade on CNOR certification exam.

Experience: Obstetrics/gynecology.

Minimum Qualifications for Physician Assistant

Bachelor\'s Degree or Master\'s Degree as Physician Assistant required.

Graduate of an ARC-PA approved PA training program.

Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants.

Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant in Pennsylvania.

American Heart Association BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at the discretion of the department.

Experience: Eligible and talented new graduates will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Master\'s level degree as Physician Assistant preferred.

Experience: Obstetrics/gynecology.

Manage comprehensive and individualized care for obstetrics/gynecology patients and their families in the inpatient phase and in the ambulatory setting.

Complete daily rounds; consultations and/or pre-procedure evaluations; provide urgent and chronic management of OB/Gyn patients in the ambulatory setting.

Complete integrated assessments.

Follow established clinical guidelines and protocols to order additional tests or consults as appropriate.

Perform and communicate results of diagnostic tests following guidelines and scope of practice.

Consult and communicate with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings.

Perform succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations and document findings in the medical record.

Facilitate patient discharge and/or follow-up by coordinating services and tests for outpatient follow-up appointments.

Perform necessary procedures following guidelines and protocols within scope of practice.

Develop a comprehensive, individualized plan of care including teaching, disposition planning and referrals as needed.

Demonstrate expertise in caring for patients across the age continuum and participate in physician rounds as applicable.

Identify unstable or complex OB/Gyn patient care situations and initiate appropriate intervention.

Recognize emergencies and initiate effective emergency care.

Coordinate follow-up procedures and tests in the ambulatory setting.

Contribute to outcome measures collection and continuous care improvements.

Demonstrate critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning in clinical decision making.

Use equipment safely and base decisions on scientific principles and standards of care.

Educate nursing staff, hospital staff, students, patients, families and the community using appropriate teaching strategies.

Promote a learning environment by aligning with patient/family preferences and readiness to learn.

Evaluate the effectiveness of patient/family teaching and collaborate on education plans.

Update knowledge throughout the year and complete identified clinical competencies.

Serve as a resource for staff caring for OB/Gyn patients and provide educational programs.

Mentor nursing personnel and participate in community programs as appropriate.

Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to assure coordinated patient care.

Document care plans, interventions and evaluations clearly in the medical record following policies.

Collaborate with leaders and staff to achieve patient outcome improvements in care.

Provide leadership in the development and implementation of changes in OB/Gyn practice to improve outcomes.

Work with medical and nursing staff to solve problems and provide professional support.

Participate in interdisciplinary approaches to care, program development and education; serve as a role model.

Promote innovation in the expanded role for OB/Gyn care across inpatient and ambulatory settings.

Participate in committees and task forces; manage hours and billing reports as appropriate.

Participate in WVUH/UHA Performance Improvement activities and apply findings to practice.

Review OB/Gyn data from registries and reports, identify opportunities, and implement changes as needed.

Participate in clinical trials and research studies with the Principal Investigator as appropriate.
