The Division of Forestry is looking for motivated individuals to join our team of Wildland Fire and Resource Technicians. This permanent seasonal position is staffed 10 months annually (February 1 to November 30) to provide initial attack wildfire suppression for the State of Alaska, with the possibility of fuels project work during the fall/winter months. This position receives a 30% base salary increase through a letter of agreement. The posted salary reflects this increase. It also receives a 25% hazard pay increase under a hazard pay letter of agreement. The Working Environment You Can Expect
This position is based at the Soldotna Area office of the Kenai-Kodiak Area Office, located at 42499 Sterling Hwy, Soldotna, Alaska. Duties require considerable physical exertion outdoors in all terrain and weather, long hours, and extended periods away from home. You must be able to carry up to 45 pounds, run, bend, twist, walk, and climb. A work capacity or “pack” test is required and must be passed at the Arduous level for firefighter positions. Twelve months of wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience at the journey level. This experience may be met by service as a Wildland Fire and Resource Technician 3 with the State of Alaska or equivalent with another employer. Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System (NICS) is required (see required job qualifications special note). Substitution
Credit for up to six months of required field experience may be substituted with completed coursework in forestry, fire science, or related fields. For example, college coursework with credits as described may count toward experience. Transcripts or a letter from a vocational school must indicate college credit equivalency. There is no substitution for the National Incident Qualification System (Red Card) qualifications. Special Note
Applicants must be at least eighteen years of age. Most positions require NICS certifications. Selection will consider candidates meeting experience and NICS training requirements for fire operations, wildland fire prevention, or aviation support. Applicants must pass the Work Capacity Test at the Arduous level (3-mile hike with a 45-pound pack in 45 minutes or less). You must possess an Alaska driver’s license; if not, you may apply and obtain licensure after offer. Some positions require travel, stand-by/recall, and may involve flying in aircraft or helicopters or handling hazardous materials. Some roles may require a medical or firearms-related eligibility. The Alaska Division of Forestry, Kenai-Kodiak Area, seeks a motivated Aviation Foreman in Soldotna, AK. In this role, you will: Directly supervise consolidation of Foresty Technician I/II/III and other personnel based on fire danger; assign crews to engines and helitack rotations; set schedules. Operate emergency vehicles; establish Unified Command; develop and implement strategy and tactics; ensure personnel safety. Identify and correct unsafe conditions; report findings and corrective actions. Oversee the Area helitack program and provide oversight for lower-level technicians. Coordinate with Fire Program Aviation Officers on aviation issues to maintain initial-attack capability during high fire danger. Oversee the administration of the local helicopter contract. Lead local helitack program activities (fueling, staffing, manifest, flight logs, load calculations). Ensure IHOG standards are followed and enforced. Provide oversight for local fixed-wing aircraft, ramp, Kenai-Kodiak Tanker Base, and helicopter base. Ensure adequate fuel supply and safe fueling operations. Manifest and calculate loads for transporting passengers and cargo. May oversee Aviation Operations and ensure safety in line with FAA, DNR, and Airport policies. Ensure daily cost summaries and daily flight invoices for assigned aircraft and equipment are completed. Application Documents
