The Department of Public Works is seeking to fill a Systems Application Programmer I/II (SAP I/II) within the Technology Services team to support the Animal Care and Services Division (ACS). This role contributes to data hygiene, builds dashboards and reports, authors SOPs for Chameleon workflows, provides desktop and mobile device support, and supports ACS tech projects. This position is part of the Technology Services Division but assigned to ACS and dedicated to supporting ACS technology functions, including both application and desktop support. It is an individual contributor role requiring attention to data quality, customer service, understanding of ACS business processes and workflows, and knowledge of Chameleon software and backend databases. Under the direction of a senior team member, the SAP I/II will maintain the Chameleon application and data, build dashboards and reports, and provide desktop support to ACS users. Key responsibilities may include: Provide end-to-end support for the Chameleon application, including creating user accounts, privileges, user training, troubleshooting, documentation, and issue resolution. Perform regular data validation on Chameleon backend data; identify and correct data issues and guide users to resolve recurring errors. Roll out Chameleon modules to rescue partners and volunteers; onboard users and provide ongoing support and maintenance of web-based modules. Develop dashboards and reports from Chameleon and related data sources; ensure data validity and alignment with other dashboards/reports. Manage an inventory of approximately 200 Crystal Reports; act as SME to vet requests for new reports or modifications to ensure consistency and avoid duplication. Provide regular training sessions and Chameleon office hours to promote proper use and valid data entry. Meet with end users to gather requirements for new capabilities, reports, or workflows; design/build using PW technology stack or collaborate with software vendors as needed. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for data management and tech workflows. Provide desktop and mobile device support to ACS staff, including imaging, installing, configuring devices, maintaining asset inventory, troubleshooting, and supporting offsite events.
To effectively carry out this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience: Expert knowledge of Chameleon software, its database, and data management workflows. Knowledge of T-SQL and ability to develop complex queries for data validation and reporting. Proficiency with analytics and reporting tools, preferably Crystal Reports and Tableau. Experience supporting web-based and client/server applications. Experience providing desktop support for Win 11 and iOS devices. Proactive attitude, excellent communication skills, and persistence to resolve issues and complete projects. Familiarity with animal shelter operations, business workflows, and data collection is highly desired. SAP II: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to advanced undergraduate coursework and two years of computer systems applications programming experience. Substitutions: SAP I may include up to two years of additional related work experience in place of educational requirements; the one-year work experience requirement remains non-substitutable.
