Salary
Human Resources Specialist V - $6,043 to $7,351 per month (SR-24, Step D to I)
Human Resources Specialist IV - $5,369 to $6,535 per month (SR-22, Step D to I)
Human Resources Specialist III - $4,961 to $6,043 per month (SR-20, Step D to I)
Duties Summary This position is located in the Department of Human Resources Development, Employee Claims Division, Safety Branch. It serves as a subject matter expert in the developing and implementing State Safety and Health Programs to ensure safe and healthy working conditions; the application of accidental injury leaves, temporary hazard pay provisions; and identifying and evaluating hazardous working conditions.
Responsibilities
Providing information and guidance on safety policy formulation for statewide safety training in the areas of hazard communication, commercial driver’s license, violence in the workplace, ergonomics and drug and alcohol testing.
Conducting worksite inspections to assist in mitigating and eliminating unsafe conditions or behaviors.
Obtaining information on and analyzing workers’ compensation claims to recommend appropriate actions in resolving requests, including the percentage of differential to be awarded, as applicable.
Representing the Safety Office at arbitration hearings pertaining to Temporary Hazard Pay, Drug and Alcohol testing, and collective bargaining provisions pertaining to health and safety.
Preparing clear and concise written reports, establishing and maintaining effective relationships with a wide variety of individuals, and researching and analyzing data.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Legal Authorization to Work Requirement:
Citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Basic Education/Experience: A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four‑year college or university.
Specialized Experience:
One and one half (1 1/2) years for level III, two and one half (2 1/2) years for level IV or three and one half (3 1/2) years for level V of professional work experience in one or any combination of human resources management functions (recruitment, placement, examination, position classification, pay or wage administration, employee management relations and services, employee development, human resources program development and services, labor relations, and human resources research).
Selective Certification Requirement:
Six months for level III, one year for level IV or two years for level V of professional work experience in the area(s) of safety, labor relations, and/or workers’ compensation.
Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
Supervisory Aptitude: For level V only, supervisory aptitude may be accepted when sufficient evidence of supervisory abilities is provided.
