Eastern Washington University (EWU) in Cheney, Washington is inviting candidates to apply for its inaugural Dean of Graduate Studies and Research. What you will be doing
Strategic Leadership
– Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for expanding externally funded research and enhancing graduate education; champion a culture of innovation, integrity, and access; align initiatives with EWU’s Strategic and Academic Master Plans.
Graduate Education
– Provide academic and administrative leadership for more than 40 graduate programs serving 3,500+ students across in‑person, hybrid, and online formats; collaborate with deans and graduate directors to strengthen program quality, accreditation, and market alignment; oversee graduate student funding, including assistantships and tuition waivers, and advocate for competitive support models; advance recruitment, retention, and professional development initiatives to promote student success.
Research and Grants Development
– Oversee pre‑ and post‑award administration, compliance, and faculty development within OGRD; support faculty in securing external funding and building cross‑disciplinary, applied research partnerships; ensure compliance with all federal and institutional policies related to research integrity, human and animal subjects, and conflict of interest.
Collaboration and Partnerships
– Build strong internal and external partnerships with colleges, advancement, industry, government, and community organizations; represent EWU in state and national councils related to research and graduate education.
Administration and Resource Management
– Supervise the Directors of Grants and Research Development and Graduate Programs; manage budgets and allocate resources to advance institutional priorities; streamline policies and processes that improve research development and graduate operations.
Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. or terminal research degree in any field and a record of scholarship meriting tenure at EWU.
Demonstrated success in securing and managing external grants or contracts.
Substantial leadership experience in graduate education, research administration, or related roles.
Knowledge of federal and institutional compliance regulations related to sponsored research and graduate studies.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience directing graduate programs or an office of sponsored research.
Proven success in building partnerships with external organizations to expand research opportunities.
Experience with budget management, fundraising, and aligning resources to institutional goals.
Familiarity with research security, responsible conduct of research, and intellectual property.
Tenured faculty experience at the rank of Full Professor.
Demonstrated ability to lead change, foster collaboration, and promote continuous improvement.
