Scope
The Accounting Manager directs a team of accountants and specialists. A leader within the Corporate Accounting organization, this role manages the monthly close and payroll processes and ensures the accuracy and timeliness of accounting data within a defined scope of responsibility. This position reports to the Corporate Controller.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage the financial close process through direct oversight of a team of accountants and collaboration with other departments
Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure results of operations and financial position are accurately stated in accordance with US GAAP
Direct the accurate and timely processing of payroll
Oversee the administration and accounting for employee stock compensation and purchase programs
Analyze accounting data to provide meaningful and decision-useful insights within a defined scope of responsibility
Exercise diligent staff development practices to develop and maintain a high-performing team of accountants and specialists
Maintain, and improve as needed, effective and efficient accounting processes and documentation standards in support of accurate and timely accounting data and effective internal controls
Support quarterly reviews and year-end audits, as needed
Assist with footnote preparation for quarterly 10-Q and annual 10-K SEC filings, as needed
Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting within a defined scope of responsibility
Perform special projects as assigned

Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in accounting required
CPA and/or Master's degree in accounting or finance preferred
At least three years of management experience
Public accounting experience a plus
SAP experience a plus
Public company experience a plus
Competencies and Skills Self-motivated, independent, and proactive with a high level of organization, professionalism and attention to detail
Strong management skills and devotion to team and staff development
Process minded and dedicated to process improvement
Strong communication and analytical skills
Familiarity with and willingness to work in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced environment
Proficiency in ERP and Microsoft Office applications
Physical Demands Continuous: sitting position, prolonged use of computer and possible eye strain
Occasional: walking, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching
Occasional lift: 0 to 30 pounds

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment
Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. The work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continual exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continual exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards. The following Personal Protective Equipment is required:
Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor
The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a task is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
