Summary: This is a highly skilled inspection and supervisory role responsible for reviewing and approving mechanical plans (e.g., HVAC, fuel gas, refrigeration systems) to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code, Miami-Dade County Code, and other regulations. The position involves both office-based plan review and occasional field inspections.

Key Responsibilities:

Review mechanical plans, blueprints, and specifications for code compliance.

Approve or reject plans; explain deficiencies and required changes to contractors, engineers, and architects.

Inspect pressure vessels, HVAC systems, refrigeration, ventilation, and fuel gas installations.

Conduct field inspections, joint inspections, and investigate complaints.

Interpret codes and assist inspectors in court cases when needed.

Prepare monthly reports and handle general office supervision.

Serve as Acting Chief Inspector when required.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Must meet qualifications as a

Mechanical Inspector

and

Plans Examiner

per:

Florida Building Code

Miami-Dade County Code

Florida DBPR & Statutes

2–4 years of supervisory experience in mechanical inspection within the

HVHZ (High Velocity Hurricane Zone) .

Valid

State of Florida Driver’s License (Class E)

must be obtained and maintained.

Flexible availability required, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Skills & Abilities:

In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems and applicable codes.

Strong ability to read and interpret technical plans and specifications.

Familiarity with fire safety and mechanical system regulations (e.g., HVAC, boilers, gas systems).

Ability to supervise, assign, and review the work of others effectively.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Capable of maintaining accurate records and preparing reports.

Works well under pressure and deadlines.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Primarily office-based with occasional field inspections.

Must be able to sit, stand, talk, hear, and use hands regularly.

Occasionally required to climb stairs, bend, lift up to 14 lbs, or work in dusty, hot environments.
