Assistant Superintendent

The club features a signature 18-hole golf course designed to balance challenge and playability. Job purpose The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. Under the Superintendent's supervision, the Assistant Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent's capacity during his/her absence.
Duties and responsibilities
Assist the Superintendent in day to day operations of the facility.
Supervise, train, and work with seasonal staff to build a solid team environment.
Prepare and submit weekly employee schedules to ensure efficient use of employees.
Helps monitor the course for disease pressure, moisture issues (both dry and wet), turf decline, and other pests.
Must have the ability to make pesticide and fertilizer applications, calibrate equipment, properly document applications, keep an inventory, and the ability to take notes.
Irrigation scheduling, repair, and maintenance of a Toro irrigation system with Osmac controllers and Lynx operating system.
Knowledge and ability to properly hand-water turf.
Be willing to work on average a 40 to 55 hour week depending on need, and every third weekend during the golf season.
Have the ability to work in the Winter elements on snow removal, and various outside Winter tasks.
Attend and participate in weekly department and other periodic employee and member meetings.
Conduct weekly facility walk through to ensure the facility is safe and presentable.
Operate within all guidelines, policies, standards and constraints as established by Hampton Golf.
Qualifications
Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automatic controls.
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; maintain effective employee and public relations.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
May require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
