Job Description
This position requires office presence of a minimum of 5 days per week and is only located in the location(s) posted. No relocation is offered.
Join AT&T’s Voice OSS organization to lead the modernization of mission‑critical provisioning platforms that power our Voice portfolio. As a Principal Member of Technical Staff, you will apply advanced engineering and scientific expertise to architect, design, and deliver innovative solutions from inception to implementation, aligned to the company’s strategic direction.
The
Service Provisioning Platform (SPP)
and
Network Element Activation Manager (NEAM)
are central to provisioning AT&T VoIP services—supporting BVoIP, CVoIP, VoLTE/VoNR, IP Toll‑Free/8YY, E911/N11, routing, and trunking—and integrate with inventory, activation, testing, and audit systems across the Voice OSS domain. You will help drive
VoXPro , a multi‑year initiative to transition from legacy J2EE/Struts and Kabira workloads to
cloud‑native microservices , modernize the
React
UI, and establish resilient, observable
Azure
delivery.
What you'll do
Architect and decompose legacy SPP/VoXPro services into cloud-native microservices, using patterns like strangler and anti‑corruption layers.
Lead modernization of the application stack, including Java 8→17+, WebSphere/J2EE→Spring Boot Microservices and Kubernetes, JMS 1.1→2.0, Oracle 11g→19c, and Struts/JSP→React for UI.
Establish cloud-native delivery on Azure, including containerization, CI/CD pipelines, environment promotion, and observability (metrics, logs, traces, SLOs).
Integrate with AT&T platforms—API Gateways, iPlatforms, and eventing systems (DMaaP, IEBUS)—to deliver secure, reliable interfaces across on‑prem and cloud boundaries.
Mentor senior engineers, lead design reviews and production readiness assessments, and partner with cross‑functional stakeholders to align roadmaps and preserve service levels.
Apply data‑driven decisioning using telemetry and provisioning KPIs to improve throughput, success rates, and rollback strategies.
What you'll bring
Experience with legacy platforms such as Kabira KPSA, Oracle ASAP, CORBA/Iona, and WebSphere, with proven approaches to safely encapsulate or sunset these technologies.
Familiarity with AT&T delivery processes and tools (PMATT design/attestations, forum‑based knowledge capture for provisioning SMEs).
Experience orchestrating activation gateways that preserve on‑prem device connectivity while enabling cloud application layers.
Strong mentoring skills and the ability to uplift engineering rigor across teams.
A collaborative mindset and the ability to partner effectively with cross‑functional stakeholders.
What you’ll need
PhD with 4+ years, MS with 6+ years, or BS with 8+ years in an approved field from an approved university per the Technical Career Pathway (TCP); exceptions require Board Review.
Deep experience with modern Java platforms (Java 17, Spring Boot, Kubernetes), refactoring legacy J2EE/WebSphere services, and strong knowledge of JMS 2.0 and transactional patterns.
Proven delivery migrating Struts/JSP to React SPA with enterprise tooling and accessibility awareness.
Hands‑on expertise in cloud‑native delivery on Azure, including containerization, CI/CD (Maven/Jenkins), environment promotion, and operational readiness.
Understanding of VoIP provisioning and activation flows (BVoIP/CVoIP, routing/trunking, 8YY/E911/N11) within a high‑reliability OSS ecosystem.
Practical DevSecOps experience and adherence to AT&T security controls, including CCAM alignment.
Apply knowledge of AT&T’s IMS Core Network elements and provisioning interfaces (Nokia NEs), experience with CPE EMS provisioning interfaces, and AT&T' OSS systems.
