We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Faculty Group Practice Medical Assistant (37.5). The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians and/or Advanced Care Practitioners and nurses in providing patient care. This role validates patient identifiers, prepares patients and rooms for examination, measures and records vital signs, draws blood, and collects other lab samples. The Medical Assistant also performs administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and performing data entry. Job Responsibilities
Escorts patients to exam rooms Cleans and stocks exam rooms Measures and records patient vital signs Obtains and processes blood samples as per NYULH policy Supports equality initiatives by following FGP guidelines for collecting and documenting information in the EMR Promotes a positive patient experience Communicates effectively with providers and administrative staff; escalate issues Answers phone calls Reviews and responds to in-basket messages Follows up on Rx refill requests Assists physician with patient intake and transcribing visit into EPIC Performs other duties as needed Clinical & Administrative Responsibilities
Completes necessary intake, including obtaining patient vital signs and other tests within defined scope of practice as needed Follows guidelines for validating patient medical record when accessing and updating information (name, date of birth) Maintains patient flow to and from exam rooms and treatment areas; assists in escorting patients and specimens Ensures exam rooms and treatment areas are cleaned per infection control standards after each patient Communicates the functionality and purpose of MyChart to patients during intake Ensures appropriate translation services or equipment are in place prior to the start of visit Assists with blood/specimen collection and ensures proper handling and processing of specimens per policy Performs point-of-care testing (e.g., EKG, glucose testing, pregnancy test, urinalysis) per policy and with required competency documentation Prepares the patient encounter ensuring relevant information is up-to-date (bloodwork, radiology images, medications, past medical history) Reviews and imports any “Prepare for your Visit” or “Outside Information” into the chart prior to provider encounter Maintains logs for equipment, specimens, and safety measures per FGP standards Supports best-practice workflows for MIPS by updating medical records with vital signs and histories; may scan/upload diagnostic reports and link to orders in Epic Maintains patient privacy per HIPAA standards Manages patient calls and documents outcomes; refer clinical questions/concerns to RN/Provider Acts on in-basket messages and related tasks as needed Uses EPIC to review and update patient records and communicate with peers/supervisors Assists physicians with procedures and setup as needed Stocks exam/treatment rooms and supply closets; communicates replenishment needs Cleans and sterilizes designated equipment per policy and documents competency Supports clinical quality management by maintaining supplies and equipment Follows downtime procedures related to patient visits Completes annual competencies (Fire Safety, Hazardous Waste, HIPAA, etc.) Collaborates with administrative and clinical staff to complete prior authorizations, medication refills, and referrals Assists with prescription refills by locating prescriptions in the EMR and coordinating with RN/LPN/Provider Accompanies physician into exam room, transcribes history and orders as dictated, and documents the encounter accurately Documents diagnoses, symptoms, follow-up instructions, and prescriptions Documents patient orders including labs, radiology, and medications Performs other duties as assigned Patient Experience and Access

High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution OR upon hire hold a current medical assistant certification from a nationally recognized accredited institution (such as AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA). Competencies: working knowledge of English; other language is an asset. Proficient computer skills. Ability to complete multiple tasks efficiently and thrive in a team environment that pursues a positive patient care experience. Preferred Qualifications
MA experience preferred. EKG, phlebotomy and venipuncture experience preferred. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
