Overview
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.
You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

The initial cut‑off date for referral of eligible applications will be
October 29th, 2025 , with subsequent cut‑off dates every 5 days.
Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available.

Position Details
Work Schedule:
2 days per week (16 hours) – Part‑time position located in Chico, CA.
Pay:
Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off:
Earn 1 hour of annual leave per each 10 in a pay status; earn 1 hour of sick leave per each 20 in a pay status.
Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% contribution by VA.
Insurance:
Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long‑term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
Licensure:
1 full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory.
CME:
Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification).
Malpractice:
Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
Contract:
No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
Responsibilities
Provide outpatient orthopedic care, including invasive and non‑invasive procedures, to scheduled and limited walk‑in patients.
Discuss risks, benefits, and alternative treatments with patients or guardians, obtaining informed consent before conducting invasive procedures as dictated by policy and best medical practices.
Consult with and refer to other specialists as clinically indicated, triage referrals, and initiate forward or consult requests.
Manage delivery of state‑of‑the‑art local outpatient orthopedic care, including consult/referral review, triage, and forwarding/initiating referrals/consults.
Report to the Chief of Orthopedics under the Surgical Services Department and support department goals.
Qualifications
Valid, unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory.
Board certification in orthopedics (required for CME reimbursement eligibility).
Experience in outpatient orthopedic surgery, including both invasive and non‑invasive procedures.
Ability to provide comprehensive patient care and maintain high standards of patient safety and quality.
Strong communication skills for patient interactions and interdisciplinary collaboration.
