Our Paint department is seeking a highly skilled

automotive painter/autobody technician

to join our fabrication and finishing team specializing in

custom art sculptures . This position combines traditional automotive refinishing expertise with advanced form shaping and surface finishing techniques. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in

filler application, sanding, surface preparation, and automotive-grade painting , with an eye for precision and craftsmanship suited to both industrial and artistic projects.

Technical Skills

Perform all aspects of

surface preparation , including cleaning, sanding, priming, and masking

Apply and shape

polyester and body fillers

to build form, create contours, and achieve smooth, uniform surfaces.

Sand and refine filler applications to meet design specifications and finish requirements.

Mix, match, and apply

automotive-grade primers, base coats, and clear coats

using professional spray equipment.

Operate and maintain paint booth systems, spray guns, and related finishing equipment.

Ensure consistent, high-quality finishes across metal, fiberglass, and resin sculptures.

Collaborate with fabricators, artists, and production leads to meet project standards and deadlines.

Conduct

final quality inspections

to verify finish, color, and surface accuracy.

Maintain detailed records of materials used, paint formulas, and color references.

Adhere to all

safety, environmental, and quality control standards

for paint and material handling.

Requirements

Minimum 3 years of experience as an

automotive painter or autobody technician

in a professional setting.

Proficiency in

filler application, shaping, and sanding

to achieve precise surface forms.

Strong knowledge of automotive paint systems, including multi-stage and specialty coatings.

Experience working with diverse materials such as metal, fiberglass, and resin.

High attention to detail, consistency, and surface accuracy.

Ability to interpret technical drawings, finish specifications, and project requirements.

Familiarity with paint booth operation, equipment maintenance, and OSHA/EPA safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with

custom or specialty finishes

such as metallic, pearlescent, or matte coatings.

Background in

sculpture, fabrication, or industrial design .

Skills in polishing, buffing, and final detailing for high-end finishes.

Physical Requirements

Industrial workshop environment with exposure to paint fumes, dust, and chemicals.

Must be able to wear a respirator and other required PPE for extended periods, including respirators, gloves, and protective gear.

Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, reach, and crouch for extended periods of time.

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to

50 pounds

regularly.

Frequent use of hands and arms for sanding, masking, spraying, and handling tools and materials.

Must have good hand–eye coordination and manual dexterity for detailed paint work.

Ability to work in confined spaces and maintain awkward positions for short periods.

Tolerance to working in environments with strong odors, fumes, and varying temperatures (with proper protective equipment provided).

Visual acuity to detect color variations, finish flaws, and surface imperfections.

Hearing ability to perceive safety signals, equipment sounds, and verbal instructions.

Salary Description -

$25.00/hr - $44.00/hr
