Part-Time 24 Hours Paramedic Opportunity
Evening/Night rotating shifts! Must hold active CT Paramedic and Driver's Licensures.
Job Summary Provide basic and advanced life support care to patients in the prehospital and emergency department settings. Supervise other emergency personnel at the scene and serve as Incident Commander or Medical Officer for mass casualty situations. Work well as a solo practitioner among volunteer EMS personnel. Competent understanding of paramedic level emergency medicine with ability to deliver patient care in a sophisticated and intelligent manner.
Responsibilities
Clinical- Patient Care Criteria A: Maintains less than 2 minute activation time when ambulance is available. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria B: Evaluates scene safety, proceeds appropriately. Always follows universal precautions. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria C: Brings to patient side all equipment required, per policy. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria D: Brings all patient equipment (per P&P) with patient (on transport ambulance) on Paramedic intercepts.
Clinical- Patient Care Criteria A: As appropriate for patient condition/complaint, performs a thorough and timely history and physical exam. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria B: Develops an accurate working diagnosis. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria C: Develops a treatment plan per service guidelines and/or medical direction, implements care plan, explains same to patient/family, monitors and documents results. Clinical- Patient Care Criteria D: Provides patient care in the Department in consultation with the Emergency Physician and Charge Nurse.
Medical Education Criteria A: Attends required CME/PCE and is current with CME hours, per policy. Medical Education Criteria B: Maintains Paramedic License at all times. Medical Education Criteria C: Maintains CPR, ACLS and PALS certifications at all times. Medical Education Criteria D: Demonstrates a desire to increase knowledge while in the Department by following patient’s progress with physicians.
Vehicle Operation Criteria A: Had no motor vehicle accidents at which the employee was at fault. Vehicle Operation Criteria B: Demonstrates knowledge of major roadways in Norwalk. Vehicle Operation Criteria C: Meets driving program standards per P&P. Vehicle Operation Criteria D: Operates vehicles in a safe and courteous manner per P&P. Provides patients and staff with a comfortable ride and parks safely.
Equipment/Supplies Criteria A: Immediately upon coming on duty, checks vehicles, equipment and supplies. Completes required documentation and corrects any deficiencies identified by restocking, cleaning, repairing, or by following prescribed notification procedures. Equipment/Supplies Criteria B: Reports all problems and deficiencies to EMS management immediately. Equipment/Supplies Criteria C: Maintains vehicle and equipment in a clean and ready state. Equipment/Supplies Criteria D: Stows equipment per policy.
Patient Care Documentation Criteria A: Thoroughly and accurately completes all patient care records, per P&P. Patient Care Documentation Criteria B: Completes all other documentation per P&P. Patient Care Documentation Criteria C: Meets medical documentation requirements for charting per P&P. Patient Care Documentation Criteria D: Completes all patient care documentation in a timely fashion.
Professionalism Criteria A: Promotes a positive image of Norwalk Hospital EMS in the community. Professionalism Criteria B: Provides educational assistance to other health care providers and performs public education and information. Professionalism Criteria C: Works to resolve conflicts and demonstrates teamwork. Professionalism Criteria D: Serves as a preceptor for paramedic and EMT students.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Education & Qualifications
HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT
High School graduate. Minimum two years experience.
CT Licensed Paramedic, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Valid Driver’s License.
Working Conditions Manual: significant manual skills/motor coordination & finger dexterity.
