Day Shift :7am-330pm 40 hours/week

Required: High School Graduate or equivalent. Previous secretarial/computer experience preferred with Windows based computer system. Hospital or other health care setting experiences

Summary:

To provide combination secretarial, computer data entry, reception and clerical duties at the direction of the Administrative Nurse Manager or Designee.

Responsibilities

1.

Transcription of Physician's Order's and computer skills.

Criteria A: Transcribes Physician's Order's in an accurate and timely manner according to Norwalk Hospital's Policies and Procedures.

Criteria B: Calls department for facilitation of transcribed order when appropriate.

2.

Record Maintenance

Criteria A: Prepares, maintains and forwards records in an accurate and timely manner.

Criteria B: Files all reports in the correct patient's records daily.

Criteria C: Replenishes and reviews records on a daily basis, according to unit procedures.

Criteria D: Processes discharge records according to standard chart order.

Prepares records for admission, transfer, surgery, procedures, discharge and expiration. Delivers expiration records to Admitting, immediately.

3.

Communication

Criteria A: Communicates effectively and courteously with patients, visitors, and coworkers.

Criteria B: Competent in the use of Cerner, Navicare Call System, Vocera, Nash system and Forms on Demand.

Criteria C: Assists the RN with care delivery by providing accurate and timely processing of communications.

Criteria D: Remains current with unit based and hospital wide information such as email, Shared Governance and other means.

4.

Occupational and Personal Responsibilities

Criteria A: Follows all identified policy and procedures in carrying out unit assignments.

Criteria B: Offers suggestions and solutions to improve unit operations.

Criteria C: Maintains neat and orderly appearance and environment.

Criteria D: Complies all competencies and annual requirements as established by the Staff Development Department and the Nurse Manager. Maintains personal Educational Record.

5.

Equipment and Supplies

Criteria A: Monitors, orders and oversees maintenance of equipment and supplies in a proper, orderly and cost-effective manner.

Criteria B: Enters and renews chargeable items/services into computer system for patient care correctly.

Criteria C: Contacts appropriate departments as directed by Manager/designee for needed services on nursing unit.

6.

Unit responsibilities

Criteria A: Enters all assignments into the Navicare system.

Criteria B: Enters the Nash data every 4 hours and reviews the previous 24 hours for accuracy.

Criteria C: Supports unit by assisting with call bell response according to unit standard.

Criteria D: Completes unit safety rounds, including checking name bands, signage, and emergency equipment.

7.

Performs other duties as assigned.

8.

Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Education HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT

Other Information Required: High School Graduate or equivalent. Previous secretarial/computer experience preferred with Windows based computer system. Hospital or other health care setting experiences.

Minimum Experience: zero to six months

Desired: Working knowledge of medical terminology

Working Conditions Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

Occupational: Some occupational risk

Physical Effort: Sedentary/light effort. May exert up to 10 lbs. force

Physical Environment: Generally pleasant working conditions
