Overview

Foreman of Cement Finishers. Open to the public and City employees under the Cement Masons – Local 502 (Bargaining Unit 33). Positions: Chicago Department of Transportation (# of positions 8); Department of Water Management (# of positions 1). Starting Salary: $55.10; Grade: PR. Days: Monday - Friday. Hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Bid instructions and eligibility requirements apply as described below. Responsibilities

Supervise work crews of journey-level cement masons and laborers engaged in the laying, floating, and finishing of concrete for sidewalks, curbs and gutters, ramps, and other construction projects; perform related duties as required under general supervision. Study drawings, specifications, and work orders; inspect work sites to assess installation and repair work, determine equipment and materials needed, and plan work processes. Plan, supervise, and work on concrete jobs based on priorities and resource availability. Order materials, equipment, and supplies and coordinate their delivery to work sites. Monitor and ensure timely delivery of wet concrete and other materials; ensure materials meet quality standards. Direct and supervise crews to ensure efficiency, timeliness, and adherence to safety procedures; inspect completed jobs for compliance with specifications and quality standards. Instruct and train crews on proper work procedures, safety, and the use of hand and power tools. Coordinate operations with other trades and job-site personnel. Establish quality work standards, evaluate performance, maintain work records, and prepare activity and project status reports. Test new concrete equipment and supplies; prepare cost estimates of labor, materials, equipment, and manpower as needed. Additional duties

may be required for this position. Qualifications

Successful completion of a US Department of Labor registered cement finishing/cement mason apprenticeship training program and journeyman status, supplemented by two years of progressively responsible journey-level cement finishing experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A valid State of Illinois driver’s license is required. Must have permanent use of an automobile that is properly insured, including liability coverage for City of Chicago-related use. Note: You must provide a valid U.S. driver’s license at time of processing. Provide certifications at time of processing, if applicable. Selection and Evaluation

Candidates must pass a written job knowledge exam and complete an interview. Test results will be sent by the Department of Human Resources after compilation. Those who pass the test and possess the qualifications best suited for the responsibilities will be selected for interview and hire.
