Peptide Purification and Synthesis Scientist/Senior Scientist
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join the Peptide Synthesis group at VidaVinci to establish and build a purification-specific function. This role offers a unique opportunity for an innovative and scientifically-driven individual to play a key role in high-throughput synthesis and purification of compound libraries to support both platform development and drug discovery programs. This is an on-site role in Watertown, MA.
Responsibilities
Interface with synthetic and medicinal chemistry teams to address synthesis and purification challenges by implementing new techniques and instrumentation
Interface with compound management to enable seamless access to the newly purified compounds to the corresponding stakeholders
Establishing, implementing, and managing a purification workflow for novel peptides and complex small-molecules to support drug discovery programs
Identify challenges and bottlenecks in methods and workflows and propose innovative solutions to increase throughput
Evaluate status of peptide synthesis and purification capabilities and work with leadership to plan for equipment, software, and personnel needs
Program, operate, maintain and troubleshoot automated synthesis and purification systems, HPLC, lyophilizers, rotovaps and other standard equipment
Develop preparative HPLC methods and purify novel compounds
Characterize newly synthesized compounds by LC-MS, NMR, circular dichroism or other analytical methods
Use an ELN and LIMS to keep detailed records and register new compounds
Coordinate across functions to plan synthesis projects, provide regular updates to stakeholders, and deliver high-quality compounds with a fast turnaround
Qualifications
Scientist: PhD in Chemistry or a related field, including purification or separation of complex molecules, with 0-2 years of industry experience, or Master’s degree with 4+ years of relevant industry experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience
Senior Scientist: PhD in Chemistry or a related field, including purification or separation of complex molecules, with 4+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience
Experience in purification techniques, including HPLC (UV and MS-triggered) and SPE, experience with a variety of stationary phases, including normal, reverse, size-exclusion, and ion-exchange
Experience in advanced analytical techniques such as CD, NMR, UV-VIS, FTIR
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and plan work autonomously
Skills to supervise junior group members and communicate effectively with colleagues and senior leadership across disciplines
Ability to manage time efficiently and meet ambitious deadlines
Knowledge of lab safety standards and procedures
Eager to solve problems and make a positive impact
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the synthesis of peptide libraries.
