Assistant Director of Camper Wellness

We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Director of Camper Wellness to join the camps team at the Staenberg‑Loup Jewish Community Center. The successful candidate will support year‑round programming for children from kindergarten through 10th grade and will work closely with the Camp Shai team on summer day camp and School’s Out! programs.
Key Responsibilities
Provide oversight and expertise for Camp Shai’s inclusion and character development programming.
Communicate and oversee inclusion policies for Camp Shai and School’s Out!
Engage and facilitate programming that promotes positive youth development.
Design and implement character‑based programming, including community‑service projects and specialized Juneteenth programs.
Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Programs on curriculum design during School’s Out! programs.
Supervise and develop Camp Shai’s counselor‑in‑training program.
Develop and maintain care plans for campers as requested and support shared information with JCC Ranch Camp.
Support direct supervision of campers and staff during School’s Out! programs, including crisis intervention.
Coach seasonal staff on inclusive and restorative behavior management practices.
Use written and verbal communication with families to share updates and insights regarding camper behavior.
Assist in implementing regular evaluations for all seasonal staff.
Support ACA and licensing accreditation visits and documentation.
Help recruit, interview, and hire seasonal staff for summer and School’s Out! positions.
Provide supervision, oversight, and support to seasonal staff as assigned.
Collaborate with the Camp Director team on outreach, recruitment strategy, community outreach events, and marketing communications.
Manage the CRM system (CampMinder) for enrollment, reporting, and camper needs tracking.
Coordinate with Camp Registrar and other staff to ensure timely communication with families and accurate data entry.
Oversee the Camp Shai email inbox and respond to inquiries promptly.
Manage program budget and ensure spending aligns with the annual budget.
Maintain camper and staff records and ensure compliance with Colorado childcare licensing regulations.
Document and evaluate program objectives related to inclusion‑specific grant funding.
Collaborate with the General Manager of Camps to identify additional funding opportunities for inclusion or character development.
Meet physical and driving requirements for on‑site programming.

Basic Qualifications
At least 21 years of age.
At least 5 years of verifiable experience working with children.
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education, Social Work, or related field.
Valid First Aid & CPR certification (certifications will be provided by the JCC).
Willful compliance with employment requirements including background screening and CDHS law documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in a related field.
Previous leadership or supervision experience.
Experience in a day camp or residential camp setting.
