Hybrid Technical Writer – GM Defense This hybrid role requires reporting to Warren, Michigan or Milford, Michigan three times per week.

The Role The Technical Writer will organize, plan, and develop technical writing in the areas of logistic engineering, maintenance, and validation/verification activities for Military and Commercial Programs. The writer will interface with clients on TM and Logistic Engineering issues under the direction of the Technical Writing Project Lead. The writer may also be asked to validate procedures on vehicles.

What You'll Do

Develop technical writing procedures in support of a program to meet schedule and quality guidelines.

Write a variety of technical manuals, training materials, and/or create content for work packages.

Use publishing/page production tools (Arbor Text) and interactive authoring and display software such as IADS / IETM development processes.

Understand MIL‑STD’s (Mil‑Std40051 and S1000D) and produce technical manual procedures that meet these requirements.

Understand GM’s GSA, Techline Connect, Power‑Bi, IVED’s/Schematics, Global Doc’s, and MSID/PSID requirements and produce technical manual procedures accordingly.

Analyze and interpret engineering drawings and other technical data to translate information into technical documentation.

Analyze basic systems and develop step‑by‑step troubleshooting procedures that isolate faults and provide solutions.

Create graphics from Team Center / Math to support technical procedures following graphic standards.

Perform quality assurance support for document preparation and delivery.

Perform hands‑on validation and verification of mechanical and diagnostic processes on vehicles/equipment in accordance with established procedures and schedules.

Follow the established plan to meet overall program objectives as defined by program management and technical publications leadership.

Develop technical manual procedures in accordance with contract, SOW, and/or military standard.

Other duties as assigned.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Accredited bachelor’s degree or at least four years progressively responsible experience in technical writing and logistic engineering.

Minimum of two years of relevant Department of Defense technical writing experience.

Familiarity with troubleshooting and diagnostics on automotive, military, or mechanical systems.

Demonstrated mechanical ability in automotive or heavy equipment maintenance and diagnostics.

Ability to multitask and prioritize.

Dependable attendance.

Ability to travel up to 25%.

Ability to climb, bend, and otherwise access all areas of commercial and military land vehicles.

Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. without assistance and up to 75 lbs. with assistance.

Ability to operate power and hand tools, hydraulic and manual jacks and other vehicle repair equipment.

Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.

Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to work independently and interact effectively with all levels of the organization.

Ability to obtain and maintain Common Access Card.

Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee).

Eligible to obtain Secret U.S. Security Clearance after hire.

Eligibility & Clearance This position requires eligibility to access classified information at the Secret U.S. Security Clearance level. The successful candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) and must be able to obtain a Secret clearance after hire. The role is subject to export control restrictions.
