Job Summary:
Within Siemens, the Procurement Engineer will play a pivotal role in early involvement of procurement and suppliers in the product development and manufacturing processes. The position focuses on monitoring current products, front‑loading design‑to‑cost activities, and ensuring that the latest technical innovations from the supply base are translated into engineering solutions that meet cost and performance goals.
Responsibilities
Early Procurement Involvement
Engage in preliminary development, driving cost‑reduction measures (design‑to‑cost, target costing, standardization, etc.) to achieve target material costs.
Represent Strategic Procurement in R&D project meetings and collaborate with engineers and commodity managers to align development goals with commodity strategies.
Early Supplier Integration
Conduct workshops and concept competitions with key suppliers to concentrate on critical component functions, optimize material cost through design‑to‑cost, and review material cost targets.
Analysis
Gather and provide market information and analyses on international technology and price trends to identify new suppliers and technologies.
Alignment of Technology Roadmaps
Introduce and follow procurement strategies that link commodity strategies with technological market trends.
Strategy Alignment
Support and participate in sourcing strategy development with the commodity team, aligning business and procurement strategies.
Business Support
Provide support for line‑of‑business projects, delivering quotes, workshops, Bill of Materials assessment, and identifying potential savings.
Supplier Management
Evaluate and develop suppliers from a technological standpoint, selecting the best suppliers for key functions.
Knowledge Management
Actively participate in workgroups and projects to maintain early‑stage influence and shared knowledge.
Risk Mitigation
Apply preventive methods to minimize risk, designing and improving requirements, specifications, and concepts based on supplier categorization.
Supplier Integration
Coordinate product and service qualifications and approvals based on specific requirements and specifications, following a Ready‑to‑Order approach.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
5+ years of experience in procurement and supply‑chain management including R&D, manufacturing, procurement, finance, and supplier interfacing.
Excellent analytical skills and sound judgment in assessing risks and control deficiencies, with confidence in suggesting practical alternative solutions.
Ability to travel 20%.
Must be eligible to work in the US with no sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
BS Electrical Engineering Degree.
Master’s degree.
Industry experience within a mechanical, electrical, or electronic component manufacturing business.
Project management knowledge and execution leadership experience.
Professional certifications in Supply Chain Management, Project Management, etc.
Strong communication, listening, networking, and negotiation skills.
Self‑determined, goal‑oriented, ownership mindset, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, proactive, and team player with the drive to implement changes.
