Field Service Technician – Mechanical & Controls Location: Rolling Meadows, IL Employment Type: Direct Hire Pay Range: Mechanical Technician: Up to $40/hour Electrical/Controls Technician: Up to $45/hour About the Company

Position Overview

We are seeking skilled Field Service Technicians—both Mechanical and Electrical/Controls—to provide hands-on service and support for automated machinery at customer sites. These individuals will troubleshoot, repair, and optimize equipment performance while maintaining a high level of professionalism and customer satisfaction. This is a direct-hire role with opportunities for travel, technical growth, and exposure to cutting-edge automation systems. Responsibilities

Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical and electrical automation systems at customer facilities (both warranty and non-warranty work). Access and modify PLC and HMI programs for troubleshooting, upgrades, and retrofits (Controls role). Configure and maintain servos, VFDs, I/O systems, and industrial networks (Ethernet, Profibus, etc.). Operate machinery to analyze malfunctions and validate system functionality. Collaborate with suppliers and engineering to resolve complex issues. Consult with customers regarding equipment layout, performance, and maintenance recommendations. Provide remote support to resolve service needs when possible. Travel to domestic and international customer sites for service and installation support. Complete detailed service and expense reports in a timely manner. Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support. Maintain ISO standards, follow all customer plant and safety regulations, and comply with NEC, NFPA 79, and international electrical codes. Qualifications

Education & Experience Mechanical role: High school diploma or GED required; technical or tool & manufacturing training. Controls role: Associate or bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation, or related Engineering field. 3–6 years of hands-on experience in mechanical or electrical troubleshooting within automation, manufacturing, or related industries. Technical Skills Mechanical role: Proficiency with hand tools, gauges, voltage/pressure meters, and general troubleshooting. Controls role: Experience with Rockwell PLCs, HMIs, servo control, and networked automation systems. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and assembly documentation. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and strong reporting/documentation skills. Personal Attributes Excellent customer service and communication skills. Self-directed, detail-oriented, and able to perform effectively in the field with minimal supervision. Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs as required. Commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous learning. Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Pay: Up to $40/hr (Mechanical) or $45/hr (Controls) Travel Bonus:

Weekday: $50/day for overnight travel (after 4+ hours worked on-site) Weekend: $100/day domestic, $150/day international
