Dean, Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing The Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing (AEPCEC) is the second largest of ten colleges at Georgia Southern University. The college aims to prepare students for lifelong learning, advance engineering and computing disciplines, support regional economic development, promote faculty scholarship and teaching excellence, foster experiential learning, and partner with regional stakeholders. The college houses approximately 91 full-time faculty, 4 part-time faculty, and 15 staff. It includes three centers and outreach programs to enhance research opportunities and increase STEM education access for the community: Center for Applied Cyber Education (CACE) Computational Research Technical Support (CRTS) Regents’ Engineering Pathway (REP) Program The college offers six academic departments, ten undergraduate degrees, and six master’s programs, with approximately 4,000 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Position Summary
Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer and spokesperson for the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing. The Dean will lead the college through the process of articulating and implementing a new strategic plan that refines identity and vision, strengthens external partnerships, and advances research, community engagement, and economic development. The Dean will advocate for the college, its faculty, and its students, and will promote the college’s academic reputation through interactions with local, regional, national, and international stakeholders. The Dean will provide dynamic, collegial, and collaborative leadership and support the college’s growth within the region, aligning with the university’s mission and inter-disciplinary initiatives. The Dean will lead in: Developing an inspiring vision for the future of the college in partnership with faculty, staff, students, and external partners. Securing new resources and developing revenue streams to fund initiatives in research, academic offerings, community partnerships, economic development, and philanthropy. Supporting student success, including strategies for retention, graduation, and career readiness; prioritizing undergraduate research access and teaching excellence. Enhancing interdisciplinary research and partnerships within the University and with external partners. Recruiting and developing faculty, maintaining a collaborative and productive academic environment. Supporting professional development of staff and fostering mentorship and resource allocation. Strengthening community engagement and partnerships to create opportunities for applied learning and pathways to employment. Qualities and Characteristics
The successful candidate should possess the following: Passion for the college mission and commitment to students, faculty, and staff. Experience in building external partnerships to enhance education and community growth. Strong leadership to inspire research and teaching excellence. Ability to raise the college’s visibility and reputation locally, regionally, and nationally. Transparent, approachable leadership across campuses and stakeholders. Effective communication with staff, community, and partners; advocacy for the college with external constituencies. Experience promoting interdisciplinary collaboration within the university. Mentoring and developing faculty, staff, and students; guiding growth during periods of change. Background in community engagement and partnerships with nonprofit, industry, and alumni networks. Ability to manage human and financial resources with respect for shared governance. Experience with external accreditation processes (e.g., ABET, ACEE). Qualifications
The successful candidate should have an earned doctorate in a related field and an outstanding scholarly record appropriate for appointment as a Full Professor with tenure in one of the college’s departments, along with a strong sense of ethics and successful administrative experience. Preferred qualifications include: Distinguished record in research, teaching, and scholarly activities. Administrative or leadership experience in a university setting. Experience developing a shared vision and strategic plans with faculty in a governance environment. Strategic, collaborative thinking and effective communication to inspire confidence and positive relationships. Demonstrated success in recruiting, retaining, and mentoring faculty and staff. Ability to translate ideas into action and to foster excellence in teaching, research, and creative activities. Experience with student success initiatives and accreditation processes. Knowledge of building industrial partnerships and fundraising. Experience leading organizational change transparently in a multi-campus environment. Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of employment without institutional assistance. University Context
