Financial Controller at Building Talent | AEC Talent Agency — Oakland, CA | Hybrid (2–3 days on-site) | Full-time | $160,000 – $200,000 DOE Lead financial operations for a design-driven architecture and planning firm dedicated to creating environments that strengthen communities across the Bay Area. This role can be hired at the Controller or Director of Finance level, depending on experience, with a mix of strategic leadership and hands-on accounting oversight. Oversee GL, AP/AR, payroll, and reconciliations; manage month- and year-end close. Prepare clear financial statements, dashboards, and variance reports. Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow planning. Manage project-based accounting, WIP, utilization, and profitability tracking. Coordinate with external CPAs for audits, tax filings, and compliance. Supervise and mentor a small accounting team; streamline workflows and ERP use. What you bring
7–10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including 3+ in leadership. Strong understanding of project-based accounting (A/E or professional-services preferred). Proficiency with Deltek Vantagepoint, QuickBooks, or comparable ERP systems. Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills. CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
