Unit Secretary II (Eves & Nights) part time

Rotating evenings 3p-11p and nights 11p-7a; every other weekend and holidays
Summary To provide a combination of secretarial, computer data entry, reception and clerical duties at the direction of the Administrative Nurse Manager or Designee.
Responsibilities
Transcribes Physician's Orders accurately and timely per Norwalk Hospital's policies; initiates or updates patient info in the system; reviews data daily; eliminates non-current data; notifies staff of STAT orders; accesses lab values; calls department for order facilitation; acts as SME for all unit staff.
Prepares, maintains, forwards records accurately and timely; replenishes and reviews records daily; files all reports in correct patient records; prepares records for admission, transfer, surgery, procedures, discharge and expiration; delivers expiration records to Admitting immediately; processes discharge records per standard chart order.
Communicates effectively and courteously with patients, visitors and coworkers; identifies unit and self when answering phone; uses Windows-based computer system competently; assists RN in care delivery by providing timely processing of communications; relays information to appropriate persons.
Demonstrates compliance with policies and procedures; remains flexible, floats to other units; maintains neat appearance and environment; completes all competencies and annual requirements; maintains personal educational record.
Monitors, orders and maintains equipment and supplies cost‑effectively; enters and renews chargeable items/services correctly; contacts appropriate departments for needed services.
Receives patient posting and assists in room assignments; updates unit secretary worksheets; assists in QA studies; maintains and updates telephone listings.
Checks patient identification bands and bed tags; sorts and delivers patient mail; respects patient privacy.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Education HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT
Other Information
Required: High School Graduate or equivalent; two years previous secretarial/computer experience required with Windows based computer system; hospital or other health care setting experience; completed formal Medical Terminology course.
Minimum Experience: two years.
Desired: Overall performance rating of 3 or higher; requires a 3.5 or higher rating for Hospital‑wide Competency of "Customer Service"; knowledge and experience to train and orient other unit secretaries; ability to multitask under constantly changing priorities.
Working Conditions
Manual: Some manual skills/motor coordination & finger dexterity.
Occupational: Some occupational risk.
Physical Effort: Medium to heavy effort, may exert up to 35 lbs. force.
Physical Environment: Exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
