The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for an Accounting Technician 2 located in Juneau!

What you will be doing: The Accounting Technician 2 is responsible for day‑to‑day accounting tasks within the headquarters unit in Juneau, supporting staff in Juneau and Anchorage. It provides paraprofessional level support for managing reimbursable service agreements, moves, and budget support for over 200 Headquarter projects, and other accounting duties for the Headquarters employees. There are no average days – you must be able to adapt to shifting priorities quickly, manage constant interruptions, and collaborate with other administrative and accounting staff to ensure necessary tasks are completed.

At the discretion of management and depending on the applicant, telework opportunities are possible after successful completion of training, onboarding, and the probationary period.

This position is being recruited for Juneau only and the selected applicant must be located in Juneau/Douglas. Employees on approved telework agreements will be expected to report to the office when needed.

Who we are looking for: We are looking for an individual with the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Skill in using computer software programs to process accounting documentation, spreadsheet creation and maintenance, and tracking of budgetary and financial information as well as the ability to learn state and department proprietary computer systems.

Ability to comprehend, interpret, apply, and explain policies and procedures, administrative and accounting requirements, rules, and instructions.

Able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to remain organized with accounting processes, email management, and trackers; be thorough when performing work and display a high level of effort and commitment.

Adjusts planned work by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.

Eligibility and experience: One year of entry technical level accounting or clerical bookkeeping experience.

Substitutions:

Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.

Required documents:

Transcripts if using education to meet the minimum qualifications.

Copies of the last two evaluations or two letters of recommendation from a current or past employer.

Three professional references with current contact information (phone number or email address).
