Overview
The Department of Corrections, Division of Administration & Support, is recruiting for an Accounting Technician 2 position located in Juneau, Alaska. Watch Alaska DOC's video here: DOC 30 Second Cut What You Will Be Doing
You will provide financial management support to the Accounts Payables Section of the department; responsible for processing multiple financial transactions in the state accounting system, reconciling outstanding card transactions, reviews and approves tickets for submissions at Shared Services of Alaska (SSOA) Portal. You will process mileage, cash advances and travel reimbursements. You will certify a variety of financial transactions, research and review accounts and ledgers, and ensure compliance with the Alaska statutes, Alaska Administrative Code, Alaska Administrative Manual, the Accounting Procedures Manual, department policies and procedures, and union bargaining unit agreements applicable to specific financial transactions, or series of transactions. Our office is located in the Douglas Island Building with ample parking and short walk to Savikko Park, Sandy Beach, and the Treadwell Mine Historic Trail. The work environment is collaborative and customer service oriented, with our Accounting/Finance Team working as a tight knit group that values each other's contributions. Who We Are Looking For
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies: Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals. Arithmetic/Mathematical Reasoning: Performs computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division correctly; solves practical problems by choosing appropriately from a variety of mathematical techniques such as formulas and percentages. Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications such as State of Alaska IRIS Advance, Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work. Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. One year of entry technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience. Substitutions: Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience. Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
