The Department of Corrections, Division of Administration & Support, is recruiting for an Accounting Technician 3 position, located in Juneau, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing: Under general direction from the Accounting Technician 4 and in coordination with the Accountant 4, this position processes the Department of Corrections’ Reimbursable Services Agreements (RSAs) and contracts to ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions. Processes inter and intra agency transactions and billings, processes payments for services or commodities received from multiple vendors and approvals of financial transactions in accordance with the Alaska Administrative Manual, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Department Policies and Procedures. This position will interface daily with a variety of people, including staff, field offices, other managers, directors, and other executives.

Who We Are Looking For:
Accounting: Knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual, obligations, and costs methods.
Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level.
Substitutions: Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.
Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
