Overview
The Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine is seeking an Academic Hospitalist Nocturnist (Open-Rank) to provide inpatient care on the night service (7 pm – 7 am). The role involves direct patient care, consulting, laboratory interpretation, education of medical staff and students, and coordination of patient flow while ensuring quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
Provide direct inpatient care on the night shift for Internal Medicine and related services.
Consult with other medical staff and interpret laboratory results.
Educate residents, medical students, and other clinicians.
Maintain quality and safety standards, develop care protocols, and provide medical advice to referring physicians.
Participate in faculty group practice, teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
Serve in academic advising and represent the university on committees.
Qualifications
Medical degree from an accredited institution.
Board Certified or eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
Full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent.
Experience as a hospitalist or physician (1–3 years preferred). Academic or research experience is a plus.
Demonstrated teaching track record and ability to supervise residents.
Publication record in peer‑reviewed journals is preferred.
Minimum Requirements
Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
Must be eligible to serve in the faculty group practice with full clinical privileges.
Additional Requirements
Background check subject to Level 1 or Level 2 criminal review.
Will participate in teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students.
Schedule: 7 pm – 7 am shifts with on/off block scheduling.
