Job Summary The Surgical Technologist II provides patient care during surgical procedures, assists surgeons with instrumentation, and performs scrub duties under supervision. The role includes preparing instruments, passing equipment, maintaining aseptic technique, managing equipment and supplies, and collaborating with the surgical team to ensure safe, efficient operations.
Essential Functions
Provide surgical support in all operating rooms, including complex cases.
Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments, supplies, and equipment promptly.
Adhere to policies for safe identification and handling of specimens and medications.
Execute surgical counts for sharps, instruments and sponges with the circulating nurse.
Prepare the surgical field, verify availability and functionality of all materials.
Assist with indirect patient care activities such as transportation and post‑procedure cleaning.
Maintain aseptic technique and immediately correct breaches.
Report equipment problems to the appropriate personnel and test equipment prior to use.
Assist in restraining uncooperative patients safely.
Act as a role model for Surgey Tech I staff.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education, experience, license, or certification that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Education:
Completion of an accredited program recognized by the National Board of Surgical Technology or a formal surgical program such as military services.
Experience:
Two (2) or more years of progressively responsible, directly related work.
Licenses / Certifications:
RQI Healthcare – Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
or
Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
Knowledge:
Judgment and decision making.
Independent work and effective teamwork.
Problem solving and source identification.
Clear written and verbal communication.
Normal and abnormal anatomy/physiology.
Understanding of surgical procedures and anticipation of needs.
Computer systems proficiency.
General safety practices.
Leadership and influence skills.
Critical thinking.
Physical Requirements Physical requirements and working conditions are available through the Occupational Health Department. Reasonable accommodations will be provided.
Pay Range Hourly: $53.28 to $60.39 (minimum to midpoint range). Salary is based on education, experience, skills, location, and internal equity.
