Base pay range $25.86/hr - $34.95/hr
Department Overview The PAS Resource Specialist supports a range of administrative and clinical support functions for the Spine Center. Responsibilities include financial screening, patient eligibility, managed care and other health care contract terms, billing, coding, and complex patient referrals. The specialist gathers and records required patient information and provides customer service through screening for financial eligibility, confirming insurance coverage, obtaining authorizations for care, coordinating appointments, and assisting patients in office and clinic settings.
Function/Duties of Position
Process pre‑authorization requirements with outside entities, handle incoming calls, process new patient referrals, return visit requests, and provider inquiries.
Coordinate high‑volume patient care appointments, procedures, and infusion treatments; use EMR and other scheduling systems; provide reminders and liaison between patients, physicians, and nursing staff.
Provide top‑level customer service to patients, families, providers, and insurance carriers, ensuring accurate medical records, insurance verification, appointment management, and billing procedures.
Schedule clinical, diagnostic, or laboratory services; obtain authorizations; direct patients to appropriate providers; complete and route referrals; address billing and insurance inquiries.
Handle incoming and outgoing calls, document requests in EMR, and route calls to appropriate staff as needed.
Participate in professional development, training new staff, cross‑training, and process improvement initiatives.
Coordinate managed care authorizations and serve as liaison for physicians and nursing staff on insurance and authorization requirements.
Required Qualifications
One year of experience in a medical office setting with high‑volume direct patient contact, scheduling, and managed care authorizations.
Demonstrated knowledge of PAS policies and procedures, and advanced PAS user skills.
Experience in integrated care at OHSU is preferred.
Knowledge And Skills Required
Basic computer skills (Word, Windows, online scheduling).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong customer service orientation with the ability to handle confrontational interactions.
Additional Details
Clinic operating hours, occasional extended hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Employee must have a vehicle to travel between sites within the Community Hematology Oncology Unit.
Physical demands include stooping, crouching, reaching, listening, sitting, keyboarding, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
