Department Overview
The PAS Specialist at Gabriel Park Family Medicine provides excellent clinical care through professional response to patient needs. This role is responsible for all reception duties, including check-in, check-out, telephones, and providing a high level of administrative support to both providers and patients. This will include gathering appropriate and correct patient demographics, financial screening, worker compensation status, and non-covered service status. The specialist will schedule appointments—including new patient, ancillaries, procedure services, and follow-up appointments—maintaining current information on all managed care insurance plans and staying up-to-date with insurance plan changes.
Key Responsibilities & Performance Standards
Greet and check-in new patients, providing a high level of customer service. Check in/out established patients, make return appointments, answer incoming calls, and provide support to external and internal customers.
Verify patient demographics, insurance, and primary care provider information; schedule appointments; maintain insurance plan information; obtain authorizations; and support providers’ schedule.
Gather and verify patient eligibility and financial status; confirm health care coverage and manage authorizations for clinical care.
Perform other administrative duties and projects as requested by providers, managers, and supervisors.
Required Qualifications
Six months of work experience in a medical office setting with high volume direct patient contact, or one year of experience in a high volume direct public contact position.
Knowledge and Skills Required
Basic computer keyboarding skills (typing 30–45 wpm).
Successful completion of a formal OHSU Administrative Internship Program substitutes for one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Two or more years of experience in a medical office setting.
Previous OHSU and EpicCare experience.
Additional Details Exposure to ill patients—flu, colds, virus. Must be able to sit for long periods, move around the clinic, and use telephone and computer for extended periods of time.
