The Radiology Department at Dorset County Hospital is a progressive, patient‑focused department and is highly regarded by the clinical teams that use our services. It provides CT, MRI, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, interventional radiology, symptomatic breast services and plain film, and enjoys excellent working relationships.
We will offer a Warm Welcome payment of £10,000 to applicants residing outside Dorset, plus typical relocation expenses.

Main duties of the job The post holder will contribute to the general workload of the department while developing or providing a sub‑specialist interest that complements existing expertise, such as paediatrics, breast or cross‑sectional imaging. The post will also consider purely specialised roles.
Elective reporting is carried out via an allocated worklist. The ideal candidate will have a broad range of abilities across CT, MRI and ultrasound, with a job plan that aims to encompass the individual’s complete skill set.
MDT involvement will be encouraged according to departmental needs, and time will be provided for MDT preparation.
Outsourced out‑of‑hours CT service means the post holder will cover non‑IR emergencies and report elective cross‑sectional cases until 20:00 weekdays (on‑call) and 09:00‑17:00 weekends (on‑call) as part of the on‑call rota (currently 1:12 with internal cover).
Job responsibilities Post attracts 10 PAs in total, including on‑call and 1.5 SPA for research, CPD, audit and appraisal/revalidation preparation.
Person Specification Education and Training
Full GMC registration with a Licence to practice
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed date within 6 months of interview) or CESR or European Community Rights
An appropriate higher surgical or medical qualification
Experience and Knowledge
Evidence of the ability to manage the demands of being a DGH‑based consultant radiologist
Significant and recent experience in the UK
Current Skills and Abilities
Experience in a broad range of radiology examinations and reporting (e.g. US, CT, MR)
Evidence of the clinical skills required to fulfil the specialty and sub‑specialty elements of the job as in the job description and technical specification
Team Working and Service Development
Evidence of recent collaborative working in service development or improvement
Understanding and participation in Clinical Governance
Evidence of participation in recent relevant audit
Management training, organisational skills and strategic vision
Teaching and communication
Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) will be required.
