Position Description The faculty of Philosophy at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a 9‑month, full‑time, tenure‑track position at the rank of assistant professor to begin August 16, 2026. The position focuses on philosophical issues in artificial intelligence anchored in core philosophical debates, including philosophy of science, epistemology, bioethics, political philosophy, environmental philosophy, philosophy of technology, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of law. The successful candidate will teach a 2‑course load, participate in usual service duties, and benefit from internal grant opportunities and mentoring programs for junior faculty.

Required Education and Experience Candidates must have a PhD in Philosophy by the start date of employment and a history or potential to publish in philosophy journals and present research at top‑tier venues. Candidates must also have a three‑year strategy to develop their research program in philosophy and AI and establish contacts with relevant experts and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include demonstrated commitment to high‑quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment, as evidenced by feedback from students and colleagues.
