We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic EHS Project Director to lead all aspects of environmental, health, and safety initiatives within a large-scale project environment. This role is critical in ensuring the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and regulatory compliance while fostering a strong EHS culture across teams and contractors. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, deep technical knowledge, and the ability to manage complex EHS programs in a dynamic, multicultural environment.

Position Responsibilities Leadership and Strategy

Provide overall direction and leadership for EHS programs to ensure compliance with company standards, client requirements, and legal regulations.

Develop and implement an EHS management system (SMS) adaptable to all project phases.

Collaborate with project leadership and client representatives to ensure safety goals are integrated into all operational plans.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to promote a proactive EHS culture and ensure a “Zero Deviation” mindset across all teams.

Establish clear EHS objectives and performance indicators to track and enhance site safety performance.

EHS Oversight and Risk Management

Identify, evaluate, and mitigate environmental and safety risks across all project stages.

Ensure all incidents are reported, investigated, and documented with corrective and preventive actions implemented.

Lead root cause analyses and ensure lessons learned are communicated through REX (Return of Experience) reports.

Implement programs for occupational health, ergonomic safety, and environmental sustainability.

Maintain full authority to halt any activity that presents an immediate risk to people, property, or the environment.

Team and Stakeholder Collaboration

Lead, coach, and develop the site EHS team to ensure strong performance and professional growth.

Foster close collaboration with project management, contractors, and local authorities to maintain alignment on safety goals.

Conduct regular inspections, audits, and management reviews to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.

Build and execute effective EHS communication and training programs to enhance awareness and competence at all levels.

Performance and Reporting

Monitor key performance metrics such as TRIR, IFR, lost-time incidents, and audit scores.

Submit regular EHS performance reports and maintain transparent communication with leadership.

Develop and maintain contractor readiness assessments, action trackers, and improvement plans.

Prerequisites

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.

Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in EHS leadership roles, ideally within construction, rail, or large infrastructure projects.

Proven experience leading EHS teams in multicultural and matrix environments.

Strong knowledge of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and ISO 45001 standards.

Excellent understanding of EHS regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.

Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders, drive initiatives, and foster a culture of accountability.

Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Certifications (Preferred, but Not Required)

Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

ISO 45001 Lead Auditor

NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety

Environmental Management Certification
