Manager, Employee Health and Safety
Job Location: Regionally, as needed.
This position impacts the success of the organization by implementing, monitoring, and supporting solid safety strategies that allow all employees to work safely, efficiently, and with the authority to stop work if unsafe to proceed.
The
EHS Manager
will assist TAS Environmental and Specialized Waste Systems Employees, Supervisors, Safety Champions, and Leadership to continually improve the company Safety Culture, strengthen Risk Management, plus implement successful Industry Best Practices. The EHS Manager may be asked to help develop or implement EHS Safety Programs, Engineering Controls, Employee Training, Behavior Based Safety Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, and more as needed. The EHS Manager will ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and client requirements, plus help identify changes in the scope of work or equipment, to eliminate occupational hazards at jobsites, or at work facilities. The EHS Manager will develop corrective actions, update administrative controls, ensure project personnel are adequately trained in Emergency Response Plan Procedures, ensuring that all incidents, safety emergencies, or employee injuries are properly managed. Competencies and Skills
Strong working knowledge of OSHA, audit procedures and attention to detail. Ability to coach and teach proper safety practices. Responsibilities
Promote up-to-date safety audit techniques, use approved EHS evaluation methods, or assist with external audit teams as needed. Serve as the EHS subject matter expert, supporting Employees, Supervisors, Safety Champions, or clients to improve best practices, safe work methods, and processes. Ensure every incident is managed immediately during and after business hours. Manage emergency contact information for occupational clinics, minor emergency centers, Emergency Action Plans, law enforcement or first responder contacts, to support all minor to serious incident. Ensure EHS evaluations are completed regularly at jobsites, company owned facilities, and other company associated operations to identify EHS attributes, areas for EHS improvements, or to identify vehicle, heavy equipment, work equipment, or mechanical deficiencies that need to be corrected to avoid EHS Impacts. Ensure the evaluations are entered into the EHS Momentum Safety Management System. Perform site visits as part of inspections. Provide technical assistance to Supervisors during incidents, investigations, chemical spills, and other emergency responses. Manage all minor medical to major medical emergencies involving employees assigned to company job sites, preserving employee privacy and HIPAA compliance. Inspect work areas and create a written report at least monthly to summarize facility, or field audit findings. The report will be designed to promote positive EHS attributes, good catches, employee contributions, deficiencies that were corrected, unsafe behaviors, unsafe conditions, or corrective measures that were taken to reduce future incidents. Ensure Employee, and Supervisor EHS Impact investigations for all near-miss, incident, and accidents, or Third-Party reports of property damage are documented at the end of every shift. These reports will be entered into EHS Momentum system immediately, on the same day, or as soon as practical during life threatening events or natural disaster type incidents. Ensure significant post-impact, post-accident, or post employee injury Workers Compensation reports are completed to determine contributing factors, and basic root cause(s) of the accident and corrective actions to be taken to prevent reoccurrence. Guide and assist work personnel to ensure a clean, safe, healthy, and environmentally sound workplace exists and is maintained. Act as primary on-site technical resource in the area of general regulatory compliance as it relates to EHS. Ensure required EHS related inspections and audits are performed daily, weekly, or monthly and document proper corrective actions, and follow up when necessary. Ensure all required EHS related employee training is identified and conducted as required e.g., monthly, semi-annually, or weekly, when needed. Ensure site specific training is completed via Contractor Safety Council or Client orientation is completed within the agreed time frame. Maintain Atlantic Employee Training System, Client Questionnaires, Contractor MS, ISNetworld, Aveda, EcoVadis, US Coast Guard OSRO certification, Safety Equipment Inventory, Veriforce, and more. Periodically help develop, review, or update EHS programs, policies, and procedures for all business lines, and recommend changes where necessary. Work alongside site Employees, Supervisor, Safety Champions, and Leadership to eliminate EHS hazards. Maintain open lines of communication 24-7, weekends, holidays, during and after business hours by cell phone with Employees and Leadership. Ensure Job Safety Analyses, and Hazard Risk Assessments are up to date, have been communicated to the Employees, and appropriate personal protective equipment and other safeguards are adequately identified and in use. Periodically help initiate work orders for repair of complex machinery and safety equipment, as needed with respect to EHS program requirements. Maintain all required EHS records and ensure mandatory reporting requirements are met. Coordinate with HR and Workman’s Compensation personnel as needed when an injury occurs. Ensure Chemical Inventory List, Safety Data Sheets, labels, signage, and other hazardous communication information regarding chemicals used in the workplace. Ensure FMCSA-DOT record keeping and reporting requirements associated with FMCSA, environmental permits, storm water permits, are maintained as needed to safeguard local, state, and federal environmental compliance. Act as primary contact in the event of EHS inspections from clients, regulatory agencies, or internal and external sources. Participate in meetings and perform toolbox talks as needed. Additional duties or special projects may also be assigned. Requirements
Three to five years of experience in safety management in a similar safety sensitive type environment. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Safety Certifications preferred. Background check required. Physical/Mental Requirements: Adequate reasoning ability, ability to interpret various instructions, and ability to communicate risk, opportunity, and wins. Communications Ability: Ability to compute with various levels throughout the organization. Working knowledge to communicate risk, opportunity and wins. Language Ability: Ability to read and write a variety of books, magazines, instruction manuals and prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
