Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) accredited program of surgical technology,
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with at least 10 years in a Surgical Technician/Technologist role,
Certified as a surgical technologist or certified as a surgical technologist first assistant by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA),
Graduate of a military training program (validated with a DD214 or graduation certificate),
UKHC employee who is already in a Surgical Technician/Technologist role as of 09/17/2016
Physical Requirements The essential functions include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds on a daily basis; stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time. The conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases, the hazards of radiation, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
Job Summary The primary responsibilities for these positions include:
Pass surgical instruments in operating room.
Maintain strict sterile field, assist/perform surgical case counts.
Obtain necessary supplies/instruments for such cases and checks for completeness and working order.
Open room independently or in conjunction with the circulating nurse (depending on case complexity).
Set up and maintain sterile field until the patient exits the room.
Monitor for breaks in sterile technique and take corrective action when identified.
Perform counts in accordance with policy.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities Ability to scrub a variety of surgical cases.
Preferred Education/Experience Graduate of school of surgical technology or one year of directly related Operating Room experience as a surgical technician.
