Job Summary
The Medical Surveillance Program within the Department of Public Health Sciences is contracted to provide occupational health services such as pre‑employment, DMV, respiratory, hazardous materials and physical exams and immunizations to meet the health and safety needs of various companies, state and government agencies throughout California. Medical evaluations are conducted on site at the agency’s workplace and at subcontracted occupational health clinics located throughout the State. The Director, Medical Surveillance leads the clinical services of the program, overseeing staff and ensuring quality, consistency, processes, projects, and compliance with University, State, Government and OSHA requirements.
This is 100% remote, part‑time opportunity.
Minimum Qualifications
Board Certification in Primary Occupational Medicine, American Board of Preventive Medicine
Current California Medical License
Current DEA Certification
American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or UC Davis Health CPR
Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree.
Five years’ experience as a licensed physician and two years’ experience in an occupational healthcare setting.
Ability to analyze needs, establish priorities, and provide appropriate medical care and preventative medicine services to the contracted agencies.
Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentation skills in large and small group settings.
Strong political and institutional acumen sufficient to accomplish needed action in a complex public research university environment.
Familiarity with clinic practice management philosophies.
Possess basic computer and keyboarding skills.
Knowledge of workers’ compensation law and processes.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations and NIOSH recommendations.
Knowledge of applicable State and Federal law, including laws and regulations related to privacy and confidentiality.
Ability to maintain the highest degree of personal and professional ethical conduct in all business and personnel decisions and interactions.

Certified Medical Examiner of Divers, Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society
Certified Medical Examiner, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
Knowledge of university and campus policies and procedures
Responsibilities
