Electrical Designer - Level 3 Location: Irvine, CA Work Status: Hybrid (remote & on‑site)

Base Pay Range $120,000.00/yr - $135,000.00/yr

Position Summary The Electrical Designer Level 3 is responsible for developing and optimizing electrical designs, interconnection studies, and power distribution layouts for utility‑scale solar and BESS projects. The role requires proficiency in large‑scale electrical system modeling, grounding design, cable routing, and protective device coordination, and collaborates with cross‑functional teams to deliver compliant and efficient designs.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced electric system design and optimization – develop comprehensive layouts, including grounding, power distribution, and conduit routing.

Perform load flow analysis, voltage drop calculations, and short‑circuit evaluations.

Optimize electrical balance of system (BOS) components for cost‑effectiveness.

Design single‑line diagrams (SLDs) and electrical schematics for high‑voltage interconnection.

Specify transformers, switchgear, over‑current protection devices, and coordinate protective relays.

Conduct arc‑flash hazard assessments and relay coordination studies.

Develop SCADA integration plans for remote monitoring and control of PV and BESS systems.

Prepare technical reports, interconnection applications, and regulatory compliance documentation.

Coordinate with EPC teams to address site‑specific challenges, such as terrain constraints and conductor routing complexities.

Support procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.

Stay updated on emerging electrical codes, interconnection requirements, and industry trends.

Qualifications

4+ years of experience in large‑scale electrical system design, power distribution modeling, and interconnection studies.

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Proficiency in grounding, cable routing, and interconnection systems.

Software skills: AutoCAD (Proficient), ETAP/EasyPower or similar (Intermediate).

Certifications: NABCEP PV Design Specialist (Optional), other electrical design certifications (Preferred).

General Responsibilities & Work Requirements

Work week: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm (or 9:00 am–6:00 pm) local time.

Legal requirement: authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship.

Physical: Stationary up to 90% of the time; occasional light lifting (≤10 lb).

Environment: Office setting; moderate noise; occasional construction site exposure.
