4 ten‑hour shifts a week, 11am to 9pm or variable based on need, occasional weekends.
Summary : Supports Patient Care Manager in implementation and monitoring of the patient care delivery system and related nursing practice standards in collaboration with the nursing leadership team. Responsible for quality of patient care and provides leadership, coordination of unit, including day‑to‑day management and evaluation of nursing staff. Accountable for ensuring quality, financials, employee engagement, and patient experience in alignment with the organization’s strategic goals.
Responsibilities
Assists in planning, organization, and evaluation of nursing practice standards on the unit.
Assumes accountability for the supervision of personnel and facilitates optimal patient care through appropriate use of resources to provide safe, quality care.
Provides mentoring, coaching, feedback and fosters teamwork in a positive work environment to achieve quality services with high employee engagement. Values and supports diversity.
Provides input in interviewing, disciplinary and ongoing performance management processes for nursing staff.
Re‑enforces importance of established training requirements and ensures all team members meet training within established timelines.
Supports Patient Care Manager and is accountable for reaching departmental goals.
Provides input to Patient Care Manager for effective fiscal management to ensure proper utilization of financial resources.
Ensures operational and human resources are used effectively to support departmental fiscal goals.
Facilitates interdisciplinary and interdepartmental communication for effective departmental operations. Works collaboratively with physicians and other leaders; supports open communication.
Ensures department regulatory compliance with standards through policies and practices. Responsible for quality of services, including identification of performance improvement and patient safety opportunities, and for developing and implementing monitoring and evaluation of quality and safety initiatives.
Assumes responsibility for developing and maintaining an environment that supports service excellence and serves as a role model for staff, patients, and family interactions.
Assumes responsibility for personal and professional development to ensure current knowledge in the profession/position. Demonstrates ability to translate evidence‑based data into practice and collaborates to develop educational programs to maintain staff skill set and foster professional growth. Holds staff accountable for regulatory and educational compliance.
Supports staff participation in shared governance model and is an active participant; acts as mentor and leader in shared governance model.
Additional duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Education: BSN or advanced degree in nursing required (or completion within 2 years).
Experience: 2 years of relevant clinical experience, with 1 year of leadership experience or demonstrated leadership skills. Nursing certification in leadership or related specialty preferred. Membership in a healthcare/nursing professional organization preferred.
License: CT State RN License (Danbury Hospital, Norwalk Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Sharon Hospital). Certifications required based on unit specialties.
Working Conditions Manual: significant manual skills/motor coordination & finger dexterity.
Occupational: significant occupational risk.
Physical Effort: very heavy effort; may exert up to 50 lbs. force.
Physical Environment: significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
