Our client is seeking a talented, experienced, and innovative Lead Project Engineer to join their Power Development Engineering team. This role is pivotal in driving innovation and advancing technological solutions to enhance the reliability, affordability, and sustainability of new power generation projects.

Position Summary The Lead Project Engineer collaborates with key stakeholders to develop and maintain the company's standards in engineering design for new generation plants — including combustion turbine (CT) and renewable facilities, energy storage projects, and other low- or zero‑carbon technologies. This role ensures that engineering products are complete, accurate, and constructible for all project scopes. The successful candidate will demonstrate a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and best‑practice implementation, while coordinating the efforts of cross‑functional teams and fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors. The Lead Project Engineer will work directly with multiple Project Managers and Project Controls staff as a technical resource during the development phase of major power projects.

Key Responsibilities

Promote and uphold company safety expectations, ensuring adherence to safety rules on all projects.

Maintain and develop engineering design basis documents used for new generation project development; incorporate lessons learned from capital project execution teams.

Support and participate in technical evaluations of project proposals (solar, wind, battery, thermal power plants, etc.) to ensure conformance to company standards and project objectives.

Provide technical support for state regulatory commission approvals and submittal documentation; interface with regulators as needed.

Identify and integrate engineered safety controls and hazard mitigation strategies during design.

Lead and support cross‑functional teams of internal SMEs, Owner’s Engineers, EPC Contractors, and Technical Consultants during EPC contract development.

Ensure all engineering documentation is complete and audit‑ready to support prudency reviews.

Lead Owner teams in developing Records of Decision for key project milestones, including evaluation of alternatives, stakeholder concurrence, and issue resolution within project timelines.

Serve as Contract Manager for engineering contracts outside of EPC scope.

Review and manage engineering designs to ensure compliance with permits, codes, and utility standards, while aligning with operational and maintenance goals.

Coordinate with Project Managers to follow the Project Delivery System, ensuring deliverables and milestones are achieved.

Participate in vendor and contractor selection, evaluating engineering experience, competencies, and technical capabilities.

Support and/or lead open‑book technical reviews and apply value engineering principles to ensure competitiveness and innovation.

Ensure all engineering service providers are properly licensed in the state of project execution.

Ensure project compliance with NERC and Security Standards.

Maintain organized document storage in the designated project repository.

Support and follow change management processes.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in power generation or clean energy project engineering.

Professional Engineer (PE) license (required).

PMP Certification (preferred).

Proven expertise with combustion turbine power generation, including Simple Cycle Combustion Turbine (CT), Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT), Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), Balance of Plant (BOP) and Power Island Equipment (PIE).

Familiarity with major OEM equipment (e.g., GE 7FA / 7F.04 / 7F.05 / 7HA.01 / 7HA.02).

Experience managing EPC contracts, technical evaluations, and regulatory compliance.

Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills across technical and project management teams.
