Special Education Paraeducator Assistant 3 HQ Adult Support (27 hr/wk, 182 days)
Under general supervision, assists teaching staff in providing individual and group instruction, including developing and maintaining records and instructional materials. Incumbent performs related work as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or its equivalent
Completed at least 48 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university, or obtained an associate's degree, or passed the ParaPro Assessment with a score of at least 460
Proof of Highly Qualified status as per HQ requirements
Experience and skills as described in the Employment Standards section
Responsibilities
Assist teaching staff in a variety of classroom and related areas
Assist in preparing lesson outlines and plans
Assist in developing teaching aids
Present subject matter to students utilizing various teaching methods and techniques
Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments
Prepare, administer and grade examinations and homework assignments
Observe progress and problem areas of students for referral to the classroom teacher
Confere with classroom teacher and parent on progress of students
Prepare classrooms and audio‑visual equipment for use
Order supplies and equipment; maintain classroom bulletin boards
Distribute and collect teaching materials
Assist in maintaining student discipline and order on playgrounds, lunchroom, school halls, library, and study halls
Operate standard office equipment
Employment Standards
Education: Completion of 48 semester or 60 quarter units from an accredited college or university, preferably in child development, education, special education, or a related field, or a high school diploma with two (2) years of experience as a Paraeducator aide
Experience: One (1) year of experience performing student instructional activities or personal guidance of students within an organized program, or two (2) years as a Paraeducator aide
Knowledge of education principles and techniques; student needs; discipline and behavior modification; correct English usage; basic mathematics; current office methods; etc.
Skills: Instructing students in academic and self‑care skills; preparing realistic lesson plans; typing speed; spelling; record keeping; developing instructional materials; operating office equipment; etc.
