School of Social Work Mission The School of Social Work’s mission is to advance equity, transform systems, and improve lives. The curriculum supports the mission by providing rigorous, evidence‑based content that allows students to explore theory, learn intervention skills, and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues. The School partners with the North Carolina Social Work Coalition on Workforce Development to create a public‑service leadership program that builds a pipeline of applicants into NC social work programs.
Position Summary The PSLP Workforce Development Curriculum Engineer works directly with the Assistant Dean of Workforce Development and the School of Social Work Office of Community Engagement and Outreach. The role designs and implements comprehensive learning programs for pre‑service and in‑service social work practitioners and students from pre‑college through graduate levels. Responsibilities include developing a statewide, multi‑tiered public sector service delivery curriculum with five certificate programs for pre‑BSW, BSW, MSW, post‑BSW, and post‑MSW students. The engineer leads curriculum development, launches instruction, implements assessment tools, manages a team of PSLP coordinators and managers, and collaborates with faculty, agency professionals, and individuals with lived experience.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Relevant post‑baccalaureate degree required, or a bachelor's degree with at least three years of related experience. Experience may involve program oversight, community or regional issue initiatives, or equivalent research/instructional activity.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in curriculum development, training, and/or workforce development for helping professionals
Experience developing, implementing, and tracking measures of student learning
Experience using student assessment data to inform continuous improvement of educational training and curriculum materials
Proficiency in online learning platforms and digital tools for virtual program delivery (e.g., Zoom, Teams, Mentimeter, BigBlueButton)
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Demonstrated leadership of interprofessional and multidisciplinary teams
Ability to work independently and collaboratively without direct supervision
Conflict management and effective communication with diverse workforce populations, stakeholders, and settings
Knowledge of content and practice skills associated with the five critical service domains: child and family services, mental/behavioral health, IDD, adult and aging populations, justice‑involved populations
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Master’s degree in social work, human services, educational psychology, education, or a related field
Experience using data to evaluate program effectiveness and to develop continuous improvement/strategic action plans
Ability to collaborate with academic institutions, government agencies, health and human services employers, and community organizations
Familiarity with North Carolina’s social service systems and public sector workforce needs
Experience designing or managing certificate programs or non‑degree educational credentials
Knowledge of instructional design principles and adult learning theories
Experience working in a university or higher education setting
Familiarity with current trends and challenges in workforce development and social work education
