Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit

The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, and improve lives. The curriculum supports this mission and addresses the needs of disadvantaged and vulnerable populations, emphasizing rigorous, evidence‑based research.

Position Summary

Work in the laboratory of Dr. Eric Rice, Gordon Berg, and Martha Beach at UNC Chapel Hill.

Support all stages of research projects, including suicide prevention among active‑duty soldiers, substance use prevention among adolescents, post‑disaster community resilience, and housing/homelessness interventions.

Contribute to research question development, study design, intervention creation, data collection, data management, analysis, manuscript preparation, publication, dissemination, and partnership with academic, community, and policy partners.

Coordinate project management, attend team meetings, draft and edit manuscripts, IRB submissions, proposals, and grant applications.

Develop future project ideas, conduct literature reviews, analyze data with multiple software programs, and prepare white papers, presentations, trainings, and conference materials.

Present at conferences and trainings and pursue professional development opportunities.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Relevant post‑baccalaureate degree required (or foreign equivalent).

For candidates with a relevant bachelor’s degree, three or more years of relevant experience may be substituted.

A terminal degree and licensure may be required.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Excellent communication skills and self‑motivation.

Strong experience managing complex research studies (multisite, longitudinal, large‑scale).

Ability to adhere to study timelines and protocols.

Experience with participant interviews, program management, multi‑project coordination, data collection, analysis, and protocol adherence.

Interest and ability to collaborate with researchers, write and publish manuscripts, and assist with grant submissions.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Master’s degree in sociology, social work, public health, data science, or related field.

Experience designing questionnaires, conducting interviews and focus groups with vulnerable populations.

Experience leading multi‑member research teams and publishing peer‑reviewed journal articles.
