Overview
The Accounting Manager supports the maintenance and administration of all accounting systems and records. The Manager assists in the development of accounting policies and procedures, participates in maintaining the organization’s systems and records, and participates or assists in the annual budget preparation. This position oversees accounts payable, grants, accounts receivable, general ledger, cost allocation and cash flow for CHC. This role contributes to the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting and accounting processes, while maintaining compliance with nonprofit regulations and internal policies. It also provides management and supervision to designated staff and collaborates with Payroll, Purchasing, Revenue Cycle, Human Resources, and clinical operations to support fiscal responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records in accordance with CHC policies, GAAP, and regulatory agencies; execute daily accounting tasks and provide departmental support to ensure financial integrity.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and perform reviews to maintain adequate segregation of duties; prepare internal financial reports and variance analyses (month-end and year-end).
- Oversee month-end and year-end close and the reconciliation of all accounts.
- Review payroll tax reports, W-2s, 1099s, workers compensation, tax returns and other taxes related to payroll and CHC operations.
- Supervise the accounting team and promote process improvements; assist in developing policies and procedures and support system integration.
- Act as liaison across departments to ensure financial accuracy and support; assist in preparing IRS Form 990 and related schedules.
- Perform financial analysis, projections, and special projects as assigned; prepare audit schedules and coordinate with auditors for various audits (annual financial, single audits, 403(b) audits, regulatory and grant audits).
- Support budgeting processes and monitoring; respond to information requests from other departments.
- Maintain and manage CHC’s General Ledger and subsidiary ledgers; participate in annual regulatory reporting (e.g., Medicare/Medicaid Cost Reports, UDS, FSR) as required.
- Ensure compliance with CHC cash handling policies and coordinate grant invoicing, monitoring, and reconciliations.
- Adhere to attendance standards and contribute to daily operations and continuity of patient care.
Qualifications

- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking abilities; leadership and basic management skills; able to remain calm under pressure.
- Financial skills in budgeting, cash flow management, and all phases of the accounting cycle (AP, AR, Payroll, Grants Mgmt, asset tracking, month-end, year-end).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, Outlook) and advanced Excel skills.
Education
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Education
- Master’s Degree in Accounting.
Experience
- Accounting experience (3 years).
- Supervisory/management experience at the team level (2 years).
- Understanding and practical use of GAAP; familiarity with automated accounting systems.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with community health centers, primary care practices, or other healthcare settings.
- Not-for-profit accounting experience; familiarity with accounting and billing of federal grants.
- Financial analysis experience; experience with Sage Intacct and UKG Pro.
Credentials
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred.
