Location : Charlotte, North Carolina (Asheville, NC and Greensboro, NC also considered).

Job Summary : WSP is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to support our Civil Design service line, working across power, industrial, and municipal projects in the southeast. The role requires strong client interaction, leadership of small‑to‑medium project teams, and high technical proficiency in erosion & sediment control, SPCC plans, hydrology, hydraulics, grading, and landfill design. The incumbent will manage multiple projects, oversee design calculations, produce agency‑ready reports and construction drawings, and build lasting client relationships.

Responsibilities

Manage and direct small‑to‑medium project design teams.

Prepare scope of work and costing documents for proposals.

Coordinate with senior engineering staff, junior team members, stakeholders, and other disciplines to maintain organized project execution.

Perform professional civil engineering work including design of erosion/sediment control measures, SPCC plans, site grading (AutoCAD Civil3D), hydraulic systems, hydrologic analyses, and stormwater management facilities.

Prepare permit applications and respond to agency comments.

Prepare construction drawings and specifications to implement designs.

Prepare client‑ready reports and drawings.

Evaluate design options and understand cost/benefit of solutions.

Train and mentor junior staff.

Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint proficiently.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

Professional Engineer registration in North Carolina, or ability to obtain within one year.

5‑7 years of professional engineering experience.

Valid state driver’s license; must pass WSP’s motor‑vehicle screening.

Willingness to travel to project sites and business meetings as required.

Project management experience and team leadership skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and civil design software tools.

Strong technical computation skills, understanding of engineering principles, plans, specifications, and regulations.

Ability to work independently while providing guidance and leadership to junior staff.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Strong analytical, lateral thinking, and prioritization skills.

Ability to collaborate with senior management, clients, regulators, and staff across various hierarchical relationships.

Track record of upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP’s health, safety, and harassment policies.

Adaptability to change and flexibility with scheduling to meet business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
