Senior Structural Engineer (Water/Wastewater) Arcadis is searching for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing Resilience Water Team in either Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., or Georgia. The role focuses on Municipal & Industrial Water/Wastewater and Water Resources infrastructure design and construction.

Role Accountabilities In this role you will lead water/wastewater design engineering and construction projects. Responsibilities include:

Lead water/wastewater design engineering and construction projects

Lead structural condition assessments, production of design calculations, technical reports, permitting, detailed design and engineering plans and specifications for Water/Wastewater projects including plant upgrades, storage facilities, pipelines, storm water systems, pump stations, and distribution/collection systems

Mentor entry-level and junior structural engineering staff

Organize and conduct structural related engineering investigations, calculations, and planning work that has a well-defined scope

Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions and regulatory agency specifications

Lead development of calculations, plans, specifications, requests for proposals, and other contract documents

Work directly with various engineering disciplines, office/project staff, client and sub-contractors throughout the project life cycle; coordinate meetings, conduct client presentations and prepare written reports

Exercise own judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

Manage production of engineering and construction drawings, specifications, bid packages, and cost estimates for projects

Serve as Engineer of Record, Task Manager or Project Engineer on projects to manage related budgets and schedules, lead deliverables, and manage plans, permit checklists, scopes of work and facilitate coordination for timely completion and submission of projects

Some travel may be required for project site visits, client meetings, general planning purposes or to oversee construction activities, depending on project staffing needs.

Qualifications & Experience Required Qualifications

12 years of structural engineering experience in Water/Wastewater

Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis)

Professional Engineer (PE) License in Structural or Civil/Structural

Key Attributes The ideal candidate should possess strong structural analysis and design skills, demonstrating proficiency in tools such as STAAD Pro and other structural software applications. The role requires excellent technical writing and editing abilities to communicate complex engineering concepts and project requirements. Experience in preparing, reviewing, and approving project drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates is crucial. Proficiency in utilizing AutoCAD/REVIT software is essential. The candidate should have an excellent working knowledge of building codes and standards, including IBC, ACI, and others relevant to the industry.

Preferred Qualifications The preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering. Experience in structural engineering within the Water/Wastewater sector, preferably at least 15 years of practical involvement in relevant projects. Professional Engineer (PE) License in either Structural Engineering or Civil/Structural Engineering across a range of states including Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Puerto Rico is a plus. Holding a Structural Engineer (SE) License and NCEES Record featuring a mention of MLSE is also a plus. Strong proficiency in MATHCAD is preferred.

Salary Range The salary range for this position is $97,600 - $157,380/year. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
