Role Description Arcadis is searching for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing Resilience Water Team in either Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., or Georgia. The Senior Structural Engineer will utilize their expertise in structural design & construction engineering to successfully execute projects within the Municipal & Industrial Water/Wastewater and Water Resources infrastructure design & construction consulting markets.
Role Accountabilities Lead water/wastewater design engineering and construction projects. Responsibilities include:
Mentor entry‑level and junior structural engineering staff.
Organize and conduct structural investigations, calculations, and planning work within a well‑defined scope.
Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions and regulatory agency specifications.
Lead the development of calculations, plans, specifications, requests for proposals, and other contract documents.
Work directly with a variety of engineering disciplines, project staff, clients, and sub‑contractors throughout the project life cycle; provide clear oral and written communication, coordinate meetings, conduct client presentations, and prepare reports.
Exercise judgment on work details and preliminary selections of engineering alternatives.
Manage the production of engineering and construction drawings, specifications, bid packages, and cost estimates.
Serve as Engineer of Record, Task Manager or Project Engineer on projects to manage budgets, schedules, deliverables, and coordinate timely completion and submission of projects.
Some travel may be required for project site visits, client meetings, or construction oversight.
Qualifications & Experience Required Qualifications
12 years of structural engineering experience in Water/Wastewater.
Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis).
Professional Engineer (PE) License in Structural or Civil/Structural
Key Attributes Strong structural analysis and design skills, proficiency in STAAD Pro and other structural software, excellent technical writing, and communication. Experience with AutoCAD/REVIT, and knowledge of IBC, ACI and related codes. Ability to prepare, review, and approve drawings, specs, schedules, and cost estimates.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering.
At least 15 years of practical experience in the Water/Wastewater sector.
Professional Engineer (PE) License across multiple states (e.g., Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Puerto Rico).
Structural Engineer (SE) License or NCEES Record with MLSE mention.
Knowledge of MATHCAD preferred.
