Primary Purpose of Department: The mission is to prepare competent social workers and promote community well‑being and social justice through teaching, scholarship, and service with special attention to vulnerable populations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development – Responsibilities include subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising, student research direction, curriculum development, and grading.

Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities – Responsibilities include conducting original research, publishing, maintaining an ongoing research agenda, and seeking extramural support.

Service to University, the Public, and the Profession – Responsibilities include service to the university administration and governance, public service, and service to the profession.

The candidate must possess a PhD in social work or a related field or expect completion of the PhD by August 15, 2026. The candidate must demonstrate ability to conduct original research including publishing, potential to secure extramural funding, and provide excellent instruction across the BSW and MSW curricula. The candidate must also demonstrate competency in NASW ethical principles, including social justice and dignity and worth of the person.

Minimum Experience / Education Primary consideration for an earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience An MSW from a CSWE‑accredited program is highly desirable. If the candidate possesses a PhD in a field related to social work, an MSW from a CSWE‑accredited program is required. Preference is given to candidates with strong academic records, including original research and scholarship, success in securing external funds, and a commitment to quality teaching that includes online learning environments. Preference will be given to individuals whose research focuses on specialty practice areas within urban communities and health (including digital) equity, with interdisciplinary team‑science approaches, translational research practices, and interprofessional education experience.
